Rishi Sunak Wins Race to Become UK'S Next PM
Rishi Sunak has won the race to become the next leader of the Conservative party and prime minister of the United Kingdom. He becomes the country's first ever prime minister of colour and is the first ever Hindu prime minister. These are both major landmarks in British political evolution and demonstrate that there is likely going to be an increase in equality and diversity in British culture and laws due to this. There has been an increase in the number of politicians of colour in the British political system but none that have ever had the top role of prime minister which is a major breakthrough and show that the level of acceptance in British society is increasing.

Host City for Eurovision 2023 To Be Announced Imminently
The decision on where to hold next year's Eurovision Song Contest has been cut down to two cities. These are Glasgow and Liverpool. Ukraine officially won the competition last time round, but due to the ongoing conflict with Russia, it is extremely unsafe to hold the competition there so it was decided that the UK who came in second could host the competition in 2023. There was a wide variety of interest from many cities around the country to host the event. This included expressions of interest from Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. AS time went on, the judging panel decided the two cities who had the strongest bids and the strongest musical heritage.

UK Says GoodBye To Longest Reigning Monarch
There was a huge outpouring of grief in the UK and throughout the world as mourners stood still on streets throughout the country and in their homes to witness the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch had passed away peacefully over a week ago and people had been using the time to file past her coffin which had been laying in state in London's ancient Westminster Hall until around six 0'clock on the morning of the funeral which got under way on the 19th of September.

Details Laid Out For Queen's Funeral
The state funeral for Queen Elizabeth the second is being held at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19th September at 11 am. It has been decided that this day will be a bank holiday to ensure that as many people as possible will be able to see the service when it is broadcast on BBC Television. It will also be relayed and broadcast live on BBC iplayer so people don't have to worry if they are not near a television at the time of the service, they will be able to watch it online on their laptops or smartphones.

Tributes Flood In For UK's Longest Serving Monarch
The UK's longest serving monarch has died. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral Castle on the afternoon of Thursday 8th September. The late queen died aged ninety six after being on the throne for seventy years.

Liz Truss Appointed New Uk Prime Minister
Liz Truss has been confirmed as the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She received the keys to 10 Downing Street after beating Rishi Sunak in the final round of voting to become the next leader of the Conservative Party on Monday 5th September. Following the contest, she went to visit the queen at Balmoral Castle where she is staying for health reasons. Prior to the new appointment, Boris Johnson, the existing Prime Minister had been to visit the queen to resign.

These stats are according to medical statistics recorded by Cancer Research UK between 2016 and 2018. Ofgem To Increase Energy Price Cap
Ofgem, the UK's energy regulator has confirmed that from the start of October this year, the minimum amount people pay for the energy they consume will rise sharply by 80%. The energy price cap will soar to over £3549 which will hit people hard at a time when everyone will be struggling to afford the basics which they need in their every day lives.

UK Students Receive Record A-Level Results
Students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland received their A- Level, T-Level and Btec results on Thursday 18th August this year. This was the first time in two years that people's results had been based on public exams, as the examinations had been cancelled in the previous two years due to the covid 19 pandemic. The education of all students had also been severely disrupted due to restrictions which were put in place to work from home where ever possible. This meant that students had to learn on their own using online tutorials and assessments which were set out by their teachers and lecturers.

Diversity Needs Improving On Company Boards
A study in to how different businesses perform depending on how diverse the people on their boards are has been produced using research from Imperial College Business School. This was published in association with the Organisation Science journal. It found that many businesses are more likely to sacrifice gender and racial diversity on their boards compared to their competitors at times of greater productivity. The study also looked at how the composition of the board can affect how quickly the problem can be fixed and found that when a businesses board may have a chair from a black or minority ethnic background, (BAME), they are less likely to reduce the diversity on the board to fix the problem.
