Jack O Lantern the legend of Stingy Jack.
Every year in October, people carve pumpkins into what have become known as Jack O Lanterns. Sometimes candles are lit and put inside. Sometimes children go trick or treating and put their candy inside of a plastic pumpkin with a handle. There is a lot of folklore related to the Jack O Lantern. Depending on who is telling the story, the lead character of this Halloween tale also goes by other names including Jack the Smith, Flaky Jack, Drunk Jack, and Stingy Jack. This is a mythical character who is associated with All Hallows Eve and there are several legends about him. I will share here the most popular one.

The Melungeons a tri-racial people of early Virginia
American school children are taught that Europeans discoverd America and that Africans were brought over on slave ships. In recent years evidence continues to surface that suggests that there were some black people living in the United States prior to slavery. When it comes to race, in early America the mother was the deciding factor regarding which ethnicity her children associated with. According to the principle of partus sequitur ventrem, which was incorporated into Virginia law in 1662, children born in the colonies were assigned the race and social status of their mother. The father's ethnicity or citizenship did not matter.

My spouse is my best friend. Second Place in Best Friends Challenge .
We often hear people say their spouse is their best friend, and probably never question why. I am going to share today why my husband is truly my best friend. When I take away our children, grandchildren, romance and sex I can honestly say we are true friends. I met Michael Preston Sr. when I was 17 years old and weighing about 97 lbs. I had been picked on and laughed at by a lot of guys and told that nobody wanted me because I was skinny. Whenever a young man did express an interest in dating me, I pulled away. I subconsciously believed that eventually, he would tell me I was not woman enough because I did not have a lot of curves. The first time Michael came to my house we were sitting on the living room couch and he asked me to stand up so he could see how tall I was. In my mind I am thinking, "Here it comes, he's going to tell me that I am too skinny, so I decided to beat him to the punch.

Fred Flintstone, Alan Reed and Yabba Dabba Doo
Yabba Dabba Doo Fred Flintstone is widely known for shouting "Yabba Dabba Doo" but not many people may realize where his trademark comment originated. It actually came from the mother of the man who brought Fred to life. Alan Reed who voiced the iconic caveman is the one who came up with the popular phrase. Reed stated that his mom often would say "A little dab will do ya." He tweaked it and history was made. "A little dab will do you" came from the Brill Creme shaving cream television commercials that originated in the 1950s, which I viewed in the 1960s and 1970s. I had no idea that Fred Flinstone's signature phrase was related.

Funkadelic classified as one of the 100 greatest rock bands of all time
When most people hear the name of Funkadelic they think R&B, Soul, and Funk music. I can recall as a teenager arguing with my cousins that Parliament and Funkadelic were two separate groups with different people in each one. It was years later when I realized that the two bands were comprised of many of the same people and headed by the same leader. Funkladelic had less commercial success than Parliament but this versatile music group is considered as one of the 100 greatest rock bands of all time. This is because their music falls under the category of black rock. They made the list coming in at number 86 thanks to their biggest hit single and album by the same name, One a Nation Under A Groove.
