Betrayal
I am so very cold and wet. The freezing dampness surrounding me will not dissipate. Unable to shiver, it feels like my blood has drained from my body leaving me inert and unable to move, to breathe. I feel overwhelmed by the sticky heaviness of the drenched green velvet dress plastered against my legs, smeared with the mud I was dragged through.

J'ai une âme solitaire
J'ai une âme solitaire / I am a lonely soul – the only words she can remember from French classes undertaken 50 years past. Once, a beautiful young woman adored for her wit, her poems, and her intelligence, she is now reduced to those four desperate words of nothingness relentlessly throbbing and pulsing through her brain. She can do nothing but lie motionless under the cool, white sheets of her hospice bed as her essence and existence are washed away by the murky slow-moving river of senescence. J'ai une âme solitaire / I am a lonely soul.

About Time
She placed a plate of steaming fried chicken in front of him with some black-eyed peas and cornbread on the side, just like she did every Wednesday evening. She topped off his coffee, looked at him, and said “Is everything good, Cowboy?” And like he always did, he grunted his approval, and dug into his meal. She leaned against the far counter thinking to herself, “Someday, this cowboy will be mine.” So, she smiled at him, and as if he read her thoughts, his eyes twinkled and his lips curled. “Isn’t it about time we just got married, Darlin'?”

Warm Welcome Womb
Like two dark spirits waiting to meet, mate, and make me their own, a large jar of Benadryl© and a bottle of Pinot Grigio are no longer hidden behind the toilet paper under the sink in my bathroom. Their days of yearning to free me from the pain I can’t resolve are over, and their union is imminent. They want and desire only to take me home. So, with no trepidation, I allow them to possess me and my soul, as I slide beneath the scented bath bubbles, sinking into the warm, welcome womb of nothingness and hopefully forgiveness.

Jonah and Julie's Playlist
Music and spirituality are, and always have been intricately related, with spirituality often being the inspiration and catalyst for the creation of music. I was a music major at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and from a young age, music was the primary force in my life. It is in my blood.
