Pinball movie review 2023
"Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game” is a documentary film by Austin and Meredith Bragg that narrates a story of a forgotten history, bizarre, and ridiculous more than urgent and unjust. The film tells the story of Roger Sharpe, who overturned the decades-long ban on pinball machines in New York City in 1976. However, Sharpe views this as a “footnote” and not a legacy. The film doesn't burden pinball machines with more meaning than they can stand, and it is strictly low stakes. The film sets up a faux-documentary style, with the older Roger narrating his own story, showing up in flashbacks alongside his younger self and even interrupting scenes to correct the director's “interpretation.”

Supercell movie review 2023
Supercells are one of the deadliest weather phenomena, with baseball-sized hail, violent winds, and churning tornadoes. William Brody's father, a renowned storm chaser, was killed by a supercell when William was just a boy. Years later, Zane Rogers (Alec Baldwin) takes over the family business, operating a reckless storm-chasing tour company that prioritizes profit over safety. When one of the most powerful storms on record approaches, William decides to follow in his father's footsteps and join forces with his father's ex-partner, Roy Cameron (Skeet Ulrich), to chase the storm of a lifetime.

Full River red movie review 2023
The Chinese spy comedy “Full River Red” may not immediately strike viewers as state-approved propaganda if they focus solely on the movie itself. However, there are some signs, both in and about the film, that suggest otherwise. For one, the movie was directed by Zhang Yimou, who has also directed Olympic ceremonies in Beijing and was fined for violating China’s One Child Policy. Moreover, the movie's finale takes a saber-rattling turn that promotes nationalistic slogans, which has led some critics to question its endorsement of state propaganda.

Moving on Movie review 2023
The famous saying “old age ain’t no place for sissies” owned by Bette Davis serves as the crux of Paul Weitz's "Moving On." Starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as Claire and Evelyn, two estranged friends who reunite at the funeral of their mutual friend Joyce after decades of separation. The film is a melodrama with comedic elements, revolving around Claire's desire for vengeance for a sexual assault perpetrated by Joyce's husband Howard (Malcolm McDowell) almost 50 years earlier, which upended her life. She withdrew from Joyce and Evelyn and left her loving husband Ralph (Richard Roundtree), and the trauma petrified her for most of her life. However, this film is not merely about its plot mechanics. It is a clear-eyed examination of the compounding weight of growing older, carrying your life, hopes, memories, and regrets with you wherever you go. The title, "Moving On," not only implies moving beyond your past but also to keep moving forward in life, even if your past stays with you.

Inside movie review 2023
The film "Inside" has a fascinating premise that could have been executed by any skilled director, but unfortunately, Vasilis Katsoupis, the film’s director, was not up to the task. The result is a movie that falls short of expectations and leaves viewers unsatisfied, much like the protagonist Nemo, whose misfortunes we witness for the previous 105 minutes. Nemo is an art thief, and the story begins with him being dropped off at a huge New York penthouse apartment. After he steals most of the paintings he's there for, the security system malfunctions and locks him in. He is now stranded with little food, no water, and no way out.

shazam fury of the gods movie review 2023
“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” has arrived with two strikes against it as it’s a sequel to a studio-produced film and a superhero movie made in 2023. However, despite these challenges, the film manages to offer an entertaining experience, even if it leans heavily on the comic book formula. The first “Shazam!” was successful because of its focus on the two adolescent protagonists, Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer), who get sucked into a generic fantasy world, with some help from their orphan friends.

Everything everywhere all at once movie review 2023
The film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is a love letter to genre cinema, written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as Daniels. The film follows the story of Evelyn Wang, a laundromat owner under IRS audit who, after being visited by another version of her husband Waymond from the Alpha verse, finds herself in a universe-hopping adventure that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her life, failures, and love for her family.

Champions Movie Review 2023
"Champions": An Inspirational Sports Movie that Fails to See the Humanity of its Disabled Characters Bobby Farrelly's 2023 film "Champions" follows the basic plot of every other inspirational sports movie, with a disgraced coach in need of redemption coaching a team of Disabled basketball players. However, the film's added cringiness lies in its failure to see the humanity of its characters with intellectual disabilities.

Unseen movie review 2023
In Yoko Okumura's latest film, "Unseen," viewers are introduced to Emily (played by Midori Francis), a Japanese-American woman who is kidnapped and held captive. Her only hope of escape lies with a stranger named Sam (Jolene Purdy) who helps her navigate her way out using mobile video calling. Despite the committed performances of Francis and Purdy, the contrast between their characters and the campy, deranged supporting characters of Carol (Missi Pyle) and Charlie (Michael Patrick Lane) is outrageous. The plot revolves around white American stalkers whose identities center around entitlement and a desire to kill Emily and Sam.

"nanpakal nerathu mayakam" Tamil movie review
The Indian drama “Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam” is a poetic and dreamlike exploration of identity crisis, love, and ghosts. Directed and written by Lijo Jose Pellissery, the film’s English language title “Like an Afternoon Dream” is a beautiful and fitting replacement for the more literal translation of the original Malayalam title, “A Mid-Day Slumber.” The film stars and is produced by Mammootty, who plays the Malayalam-speaking James, a man who finds himself in a Tamil Nadu village speaking Tamil and acting like he’s lived there for years.

Smile movie review 2022 old released best horror movie
When future horror historians write about the 2010s, they'll likely associate the decade with trauma metaphors, much as the '80s are synonymous with slasher flicks. Paramount's latest wide-release horror movie, "Smile," which hits theaters on the cusp of a new decade, is no exception. The film follows Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon), who is plagued by a demon or evil spirit that feeds on trauma and is spread by it. The creature specifically preys on those who have witnessed someone else's gruesome and bloody suicide, like Laura (Caitlin Stasey), a PhD student who Rose meets in the psychiatric emergency ward where she works. Laura explains that the entity has been following her ever since she saw her professor bludgeon himself to death with a hammer. At the end of the scene, Laura turns to Rose with a psychotic grin and slits her own throat.
