One Monster Too Many
The place was a mess, and I’ve seen some horrid crime scenes in my afterlife. My partner wasn’t too impressed either. I saw him make the tiny sign he uses when he’s exasperated, and I agree. Well, I would have agreed with my usual nod, but I was trying my hardest to keep my head from breaking off by not moving much.

Remember, we’re all pulling for you. That means nothing but a load of horse’s dung, when it’s only MY life on the line! Of course it was me knocking on the door of the most evil wizard of our time. Not because the Council decided I was the best choice to defeat them, oh, no. Not because the Council literally begged me to do this, knowing they stood no chance. Not because they offered a completely staggering life-changing reward, which of course I will take anyway if I win.

Yeah, no. Just no. I have more than a few problems with the way this challenge has been presented. Lots, in fact. Firstly, I get it. I know stories have been pirated, run through AI, and re-published. Completely get it. I’m sure more than a few of my own are out there.
