Final Season of Game of Thrones Didn’t Feel Rushed to Me
Photo by Gage Skidmore The DVD at the library out, I finally got to see Game of Thrones, Season 8. Why pay when I can have it for free. Of course, I’ve heard the public reviews weren’t so good. I disagree and don’t understand what all the fuss is about.

Brooklyn Audience Provides the Entertainment At Future Host: A Speech Opera
Photo by Tomasz Baranowski Last week, a friend asked me to attend an experimental theater production called Future Host: A Speech Opera at the Knockdown Center in Brooklyn. Coming from Westchester, the number of locomotives to be boarded is tiresome to even think about and actually executing the manifest feels like punching a ticket for Mars. But the company good, I accepted the invitation and put on my theater lab coat.

Oliver Stone Discusses JFK and Nixon and the Jacob Burns Film Center
Photo by Gage Skidmore Last Thursday, Oliver Stone appeared at Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville with an an airing of his 1995 film Nixon. Coinciding with its re-release on DVD and his upcoming film on George W. Bush, an enlightening Q&A took center stage afterwards with New York Times critic Janet Maslin. Of course, the subjects of assassination and conspiracy arose but so did a claim that might disappoint his legion of believers.

Somers Wipes Away Earlier Defeat with 42-6 Victory over Yorktown
Earlier this year Somers and Yorktown faced off as undefeated Class A powerhouses. Both teams battled up and down the field before the Huskers pulled away in the final minutes. So a packed house at Mahopac High School had to be sitting in wait of another titanic struggle. But the Tuskers clearly suffered a memory lapse and gave the Huskers a stinging 42-6 defeat that they may never forget.

A Look back at Alec Baldwin’s 2008 Appearance at Jacob Burns Film Center
Photo Credit : Gage Skidmore Last week Alec Baldwin appeared at The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville and sat down for a QA with New York Times critic, Janet Maslin. First screening, A Long Hot Summer, the affair paid tribute to the recently passed Paul Newman who costarred in the 1958 film with his wife Joanne Woodward. Of course, well versed on everything from politics to paternity, he took the opportunity to entertain the audience to tears. But the emotional exhibition that stood out most among all the laughter clearly belonged to the 50 year old actor.

Somers Defeats Vestal 45-39 and Heads to Final Four
On Saturday at Pace University, Somers and Vestal played a sustained back and forth until midway through the third quarter of the New York State Regional Semifinal. But in stepped Somers’ top gun Hannah Angelini to finally upset the balance and begin busting the bracket for the Section One champs. She went off the dribble for Somers’ final fourth to tie the score at 27 and then drove the lane to put Vestal in back for good in the Tuskers 45-39 victory.

A Second Look at a Solo Story Ain't so Bad
My initial plunge into Han Solo : A Star Wars story did not go so well. I believe this paragraph encapsulates the drudgery. Following the green screened air locomotive chase, “This Star Wars story was more like someone put a camera on a bank robbery and simply followed the characters along. Stressful and dramatic for the perpetrators but not necessarily for those who are being spoon fed the feed. I struggled to stay awake and soon walked out."

Part I : A Look Back at 2019 John Jay Football - Hen Hud and Brewster
John Jay Sinks Sailors 34-6 After two runs for minus seven yards to open the game on Friday Night at John Jay High School, Hen Hud Quarterback Braden Ellis hit Marcus Lenz on the run for a first down, and the game between the two 1-0 teams looked like it might be a good one. But the Sailor offense was not really heard from again until late in the third quarter, and any chance that visitors could keep up was pretty much decided on the Indians first play from scrimmage.

John Tortorella is Long Gone but his Press Conferences Said a Lot About the Media
Photo by Rich Mitchell The Rangers fired John Tortorella several years ago. He had refused to yield his style to the makeup of the team roster and got what he deserved. But I still miss his press conferences and not just for the entertainment value.

Somers Girls go to 4-0 with 3-2 Victory over John Jay
If time of possession counted toward the final score in soccer, Saturday afternoon’s Girls Class A meeting between Somers and John Jay would have been a blowout. But the Tuskers will still take the narrow 3-2 victory they held on for, and as long they keep the handy work with their feet going forward, the success should continue.
