Scrabble Philosophy. First Place in Misplaced Challenge.
Dax’s fist clenches. Lorraine can’t tell what he’s about to do next. But I can. I’ve seen it play out so many times since Lorraine lost me up here years ago when the house was still new and the ceiling fan first went up. The first thing I noticed when I got lost was that I could see Dax and Lorraine from a different angle. Dax doesn’t look as tall from this point of view as he did from Lorraine’s ear.

Patio Girls. Top Story - July 2023.
Everything hurts. My phone's timer counts down the precious few minutes left on my break. My neck feels like a board, my lower spine feels crunched up into itself, and the balls of my feet feel like they're about to roll off. Say it Ain't So by Weezer goes off alerting me that it's time to punch back in. Sunshine Cafe's concrete floors aren't changing any time soon. I check my makeup in the bathroom before heading back out.

Sea Glass. Top Story - May 2023.
Bonnie stumbles in the moonlight as she bends over to look for sea glass. I’m certain she can’t make out trash from treasure in this dark, but sure enough, I hear her laugh a few moments later. When she skips back from the pebbles and waves, towards my Muskoka chair, her purse of beach finds bulges. Her sundress catches around her legs and sand trickles from her hips. I light a joint and offer her a drag.
