The Overlooked Solo Career of Baby Spice
In October of 2018, the Spice Girls announced a huge UK arena tour. Media reaction to the news was vivid proof that interest in the Spice Girls is still very much intense (even after more than 20 years). Fan reaction was immediate too, as the news of the tour sent their greatest hits album back to the #1 spot on the UK iTunes charts. But aside from being immensely successful as a group (with close to 100 million records sold and nine #1 hits), the girls have each enjoyed varying degrees of success as solo artists.

Remembering Gord Downie Through His Lyrics
One year ago, on October 17, 2017 a country went into mourning. Our Canadian son, an activist, poet, and proudest of proud Canadians, Gord Downie, passed into his next life. He had spent the past year and a half fighting a very public battle with Glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, and tragically lost his fight on that day.

Girl Groups to Listen To
From the Spice Girls in the 90s to Little Mix now, the world has seen a whole lot of girl groups. The Fader released an article in June of 2018 hosting the question, "Where are all the girl groups?" In the article, they mentioned that it seemed like the world had a plethora of boy bands, but the girl groups were nowhere to be found. Then, they spent half of the article talking about boybands. Here's a hint: maybe, if they hadn't done so much in-depth research on the boybands of today, they would've been able to find some girl groups like the ones I'm about to mention. Here, the Fader, I did the dirty work for you!

Footsteps in the Hall
I still remember the first time I heard that baritone growl. The low, almost primal howl. I remember the first time I saw the nearly insane grin on the face of the man who would eventually come to be my personal hero. I remember years later, after a ten year hiatus from grunge, the first time I really heard a guitar solo that stopped me in my tracks and leaft me with my mouth agape. And I remember the first time I saw them all live in 2003 and felt for the first time the music of a band from Seattle, the greatest band this country has ever given me, given us. Pearl Jam has always been more than five guys playing instruments and singing songs about being alive and speaking in class and flowing evenly. They were the soundtrack to my life and the backdrop to every emotion I've ever felt.
