I Need You to Read This
No actually though, read it

Ok but actually. I do need you to read this. Not because it is a fun title to a book, but because it is a compelling thriller that does a fantastic job of not allowing you to see where the twist will come from. As someone who reads this genre a lot, I find that there is a formula that some authors get into with their writing and so the thrilling twist can sometime seem very predictable in what will happen next. Namely, cause I watch a lot of thrillers and read a lot of thrillers so it just can feel stale at moments.
This book, however, does not have those moments. Jessa Maxwell, does a great job of creating this incapsulating story following the main character. It really is interesting as following Alex, the main character, is that you can always tell that there is something wrong or off about her. Like something is just off. Turns out there is haha.
The whole idea of somebody hiding themselves away but then getting a job in a very controversial position taking over from somebody who was murdered is honestly pretty comical especially with the lack of self-esteem that the main character presents throughout the book. It's almost as though she's doing this to kind of prove to herself that she can but isn't sure if she should because of these secrets that she's holding on to her which makes for a very interesting dynamic. Like how is she able to give people sound life advice when she herself is hiding something regarding her life and not being fully open with that?
Throughout the novel you do get these snippets of what seems to be old letters written in to this forum about this woman who seems to be in a loving relationship that turns abusive very quick and it kind of shows how people used the form that Alex is now writing as therapy in a sense when they weren't sure who to turn to which I guess where we kind of substitute now for just social media how we post all our problems on there and kind of go with that.
I don't want to spoil much however the twist that takes place within the last 50 pages is really well done in the fact that it's sort of a revolving door of multiple things happening all at once but in a very real sense like you feel like this is something that would or could happen in real life which makes it more relatable.
The main character Alex is very well written and honestly just feels like somebody who is deeply troubled and you learned why later on obviously but throughout the entire thing it's like she's trying to right wrongs that happened that she had no part of because she had such admiration for this person so she kind of is trying to like solve this cold case this entire time when really she doesn't notice that the focus is coming more and more on her and she needs to actually be looking after herself.
On the book itself it does say that the Washington Post calls it super creepy I wouldn't go that far it's not really a creepy book in the sense of like a Stephen King or a Riley Sagar novel where you're kind of like you it's more thrilling it's more like oh my God I can't believe that just happened type of novel. Nevertheless, it's very good I quite enjoyed the read the audio book of it is also very good um so I would definitely suggest this if you are into the thriller genre or if you're just looking to get into it it's a great starter because it's not that intense if you will.
