Introducing Sasha Cat & Daddy Dog
The story of two unlikely friends

My First Work with a Children's Book
Back in the spring of 2018 I had this strong yearning to write a children’s book. In 2015 I already had some experience With children’s books when I collaborated on a book called The Girl with the Magic Balloon. My friend Fernando Cobos beautifully illustrated the book and he came up with the idea for the story. I wrote the story using his outline, and I formatted the book. The book sold something like 25 whopping copies.

Sasha Cat & Daddy Dog (2018)
I figured I probably did not have a career writing children’s books. But for some reason in 2018 I had this strong yearning to try my hand at it on my own.
I cannot draw, so why in the world would I decide to write and illustrate my own children’s book?
After a little bit of trial and error I came up with two charming characters: Sasha Cat and Daddy Dog. The illustrations I drew were rough but they had their appeal, so I went with it. The idea was that Sasha Cat & Daddy Dog would be a minimalist work. But with each book the illustrations became more detailed.
The first book was released on August 23, 2018 and was inspired by my friend Fernando’s daughter, Sophia. This little book is a wonderful introduction telling the story of how Sasha Cat and Daddy Dog met.
The first book only sold about ten copies. But the few people that did buy it really liked it a lot and they really wanted a second book.

Sasha Cat & Daddy Dog's Really Great Day (2019)
Eight months after the release of the first book, I started working on the second. This time around I put more work into the illustrations and I refined the illustrations. They were still rough, but I kept it that way on purpose. I felt there was charm in the roughness of the illustrations. I did not want this to look all perfect and professional. I wanted my characters to be relatable, in the sense that real life is not perfect.
After four months of work, "Sasha Cat & Daddy Dog's Really Great Day," came to life. This one tells the simple story of how the best things in life are fun and simple and come from the heart.
This one was released on August 15, 2019 and it sold probably only eight copies. So I sold even less than the first one. But I was very proud of it and I really love the illustrations and the innocent yet important story.

Sasha Cat & Daddy Dog's New Friend (2020)
Despite the low book sales, I got to work on the third book within two months after the release of the second. The third book saw the illustrations of Sasha Cat and Daddy Dog evolve a little more. But I still kept them rough, I did not want to go for that polished look. Plus, I’m not that great of an artist so the polished look would’ve been impossible for me to do anyway.
“Sasha Cat and Daddy Dog’s New Friend” was released on February 23, 2020 less than one month before the Covid pandemic hit the US. This one sold only five copies.
I had planned on putting out a fourth book but with the pandemic and my own health issues and then ultimately my mom getting sick at the end of the year the fourth book never did come out.
Maybe one day I will get around to that fourth book.
But, for now my friends I hope that you will enjoy the three that I have released so far. I think you and your children will enjoy them.

Supercute illustrations and concept! These would make awesome Christmas gifts! You are truly a Jack of All Trades! Keep up the great work Cousin! 🥰
You're so creative! Kids will love the books!
I loveeeeee your illustration! I wish you all the best for your 4th book!
Congratulations on the books!! You are so much further along than I am with a book for all ages I wrote with a friend years ago and had 4 people start to illustrate it and no one finished it. My sister, a friend, and 2 granddaughters. The friend asked about it this year and after we talked she thought maybe she could finish the book now. Great!! We shall see. Then once the illustrations are there we can cut out some of the words.💗
It is your book time! 🤗
Rick, so awesome ! If this were the 80s and my boys were babies I would buy ten as I had money in the 80s. I love your illustrations . The idea to love one another even with differences is so prevalent now. I predict you will sell so many boots . 🥂🌹🌹🌹🌹
These are such cute drawings! Keep plugging away at writing your children book series and have fun!
I love the illustrations. I love the fact you did not give up on the children book series of yours. 🥰
