In a recent case, Detective Smith was summoned to a residence to investigate a reported burglary. Mr. Brooke claimed that his expensive watch had been stolen during a break-in. Upon arriving at the scene, Detective Smith observed that the front door was ajar and muddy footprints led to the living room. There were also traces of mud on the staircase. After a thorough inspection of the premises, Detective Smith swiftly deduced the identity of the thief and promptly arrested Mr. Brooke's son. But why? The detective noticed an absence of footprints leading out of the house, indicating that the thief was still inside.
