About this challenge
The Prompt
Write a micro-fiction story in just 50 to 100 words.
We are delighted to present Vocal’s inaugural Microfiction Challenge! Put your creativity and storytelling skills to the test as you craft a captivating, thought-provoking story in just 50 to 100 words. It can be on any topic, from romance to horror to sci-fi - whatever you can express in a few sentences. Let your imagination take flight and make us feel the power of your story!
This challenge was inspired by several creator’s contributions to Shape the Future of Vocal Challenges, including Ash Taylor, J. R. Lowe, Kendall Defoe, Lisa Herdman and Ruth Banning
In order for your submission to qualify, it must be:
- Between 50-100 words.
- Submitted to the Fiction community.
The Prizes
- Grand Prize: $500
- Second Place: $100
- 10 Runners-Up: $50
How to enter
For your story to be eligible, it should be between 50 and 100 words, published in the Fiction Community, and adhere to our Community Guidelines. Stories published on Vocal and entered into the contest up until 11:59 PM ET on May 22nd will be entered for consideration. Official Rules for the Challenge can be found here.
The Microfiction Magic Challenge is open to all Vocal+ members.
To be eligible to win the grand prize, second place, or runners-up prizes, you must be over the age of 13 and residing in a country where Stripe is available at the time of entry. A complete list of countries where Stripe is available can be found here—winners will need to have a Stripe account created and connected in order to receive the prizes. For this reason, entrants located outside of any of these countries will not be eligible to win.
A note on word count:
Please note that there is normally a word count minimum of 600 words in the Fiction community. If you publish a 50 to 100 word story to this community and do not enter it into this challenge your story could potentially be rejected and revert back to draft.
