Sleeping Diary
I always carried my diary beside my bed, not for the usual reason of writing down incidents of the day, but for something far more frivolous. I entitled it "Sleeping Diary." It all started on one lazy Sunday afternoon when my mom began recounting stories of her dreams during childhood, funny sleep habits, and those half-awake moments she forgot by morning. She suggested I write down whatever I could remember the next morning as about my own dreams or sleep adventures, and thus my little project was born.

But soon it was morning, and for the first time in a long interval, the sun was shining on the horizon. As soon as Elicia woke up, her eyes first went to the walls of the room, but today there were no pictures there. Then her eyes went to a corner of the room, where her grandfather was lying in a disheveled state. His clothes and shoes were completely soaked, fruits and other food items were scattered around him, and his body had stiffened completely from the cold as if he had turned into a large block of ice. His body had turned cold; both of his hands were stained with colors, and small cans of paint were scattered around him. It was as if he wanted to create a picture even in his final moments as if he wanted to capture Elicia’s last dream on the walls forever. But he passed away while making his final attempt. He had to give up his life while searching for food on that stormy night, and due to the dreadful cold outside, he succumbed to death.

The weather outside was so harsh and deadly that there was no hope for life in sight. The sky seemed to be weeping, its tears touching the ground below. Amid the fierce, icy winds, when the sound of bombs and bullets echoed through the atmosphere, it felt as if a bloodthirsty wolf was tearing out a human’s heart and devouring it right before their eyes.
