Basic Training
Note: I wrote this opening chapter as part of a challenge with a separate online page. I wondered if I would win by entering into the mind of a drill sergeant dealing with new recruits and introducing them to their weapon. The language is very rough, as it has always been with military training. It is necessary for the mentality that the average soldier will need for facing combat and the possibility of death.

DELUGE 2023
Chapter 1: The Downpour, 2023 It began in the year 2023, on an otherwise ordinary day. The world woke up to the drumming of relentless rain, a deluge of epic proportions. Weather forecasts had never predicted this; it was beyond anything science could explain. In coastal cities and states, where the ocean had always been a neighbor, panic rippled through the streets. As the rain pounded with unwavering persistence, roads transformed into rivers, and buildings succumbed to the unrelenting tide.

The Forsaken: Part VIII
At first, even Elizabeth was stunned by what happened. Lucas held the girl down, and she drank from the flask filled with holy water as he chanted in Latin. The girl’s little body went into convulsions. A monstrous scream escaped her, and like Elizabeth, a black, viscous fluid erupted from her.
