The Tradition of Shadows
In the core of the old nation, settled among the moving slopes and old timberlands, lay the rambling domain of the Hawthorne family — a line covered in secret and shadow. For ages, the Hawthornes had borne the heaviness of a revile, a dull inheritance that had tormented their family for quite a long time.

Chapter 6 Instead of firing me, Greg offered me a promotion and a raise and invited me to lunch to discuss improving our accounting methods. At eleven, Greg showed up at my desk. Beyond the Thunderdome. When I was growing up, I always wanted to have a cool name. I even tried going by the name “Panther-Strike” for a while, but it didn’t really catch on. So when I heard about “Mad Mike Hughes,” I was a bit curious as to how the name came to be. You see, “Mad Mike” was once a limo driver, but now he moonlights as a “flat-earth conspiracy theorist” and “daredevil.” You know, he’s called “Mad” because he was “mad.”
