There Are No Children Here
I used to sweep the floor at night while the big black kid, Red, I think his name was, mopped up behind me. It was always chaos as all the guys banged on their cell doors in fits of rage screaming profanities at one and other for no real reason other than they could. Most times no one took it personally we were all in this together after all, for now. Someday some of us would go home, hopefully, someday.

Reason First: What Should Prison Life be Like?
A makeshift grill displayed the contents of inexplicable food items. As the flames licked at the pan, the chef spoke to the camera that he was “Doing what we doing….” Where is this? A barbecue pit in Kansas City, Missouri? No, this is a nondescript penitentiary USA.

The battle to close Guantanamo Bay
In September 2001, just days after 9/11 George Bush launched the Global War On Terror. In October of that same year, he sent troops to invade Afghanistan, hunt down Bin Laden and go after the Taliban. America started offering cash rewards often enough change lives for anyone who help capture a terrorist. Many people in Afghanistan and Pakistan took advantage of the cash rewards and started turning people in, often times with very little evidence. The US sent those people to secret prisons in Afghanistan, Thailand, Romania, Poland and Lithuania called “Black Sites”. Here they were interrogated and tortured. But after about a month they started looking for a larger prison to consolidate all those prisoners, eventually settling on an American military base in Cuba. In January 2002 the first detainees began to arrive at Guantanamo Bay. Hundreds of prisoners were held at Guantanamo Bay, some were tortured, few were charged with a crime and none of them received a fair trial.

Con Artists Constitutional Covid: My Fight For Inmate # 337147
So, the top left picture is how the judicial system views this gentleman. The other two photos are how I view him, clearly very different. If you read the caption on the picture above it is sad, but a true depiction of just how different those opinions on this young man are. Anyone in that jail or in that Courthouse gets a case file and that's all they know about him. One thing I do know for sure if I know nothing else, he is so much more than any crime he has committed. Unfortunately, the legal system has the ability to dehumanize the inmates, and that is surely what my fiancé, (pictured above), has experienced during the last three months. Given that I don't know who to address the very serious issues that are at hand here with, I thought, why not write a story on Vocal, or maybe even a few different platforms and just let people know exactly what's going on. And maybe, just maybe someone will be able to validate the actions of these officers and the judicial system. Or show me an angle to the situation I hadn't been able to see myself.
