13 Myths About Foreign Language Learning You Should Forget
1. Learning a language requires a special gift You don’t have to possess any special talents to engage in language learning, whatever unreliable websites and magazines might tell you. You can do anything you set your mind on; thus, the only qualities you must possess are strong will, determination, and an arduous desire to learn. Is it true, however, that we possess inclinations for specific languages – some people might be more inclined to learn German while others might be more predisposed to learning Spanish. In any case, this doesn’t mean that you cannot learn any language that you want to.

How To Outsmart Your Enemies
We were eating spaghetti the night it first happened. I was around 10 years old and was regaling my parents with the exploits of my playground nemesis. It the brief pause I took to catch my breath (10 year old girls talk a lot and very fast), my dad commented on what a moon calf she was. My fork dropped to my plate as I was taken aback by this unheard vocabulary. Naturally I inquired into its meaning but my dad, never shying away from a teaching opportunity, refused to tell. It being the 90’s, I instead dug into our trusty dictionaries in a mad search for knowledge. There I found my redemption.

Writing Prompts of the Week
Hello everyone and welcome back to another week of writing prompts. This week will cover monologues, poetry, fanfiction and more. Plus, because many of you have been encouraging me to share some of my work, I decided to publish a sample of my writing as an answer to one of this week’s prompts. I’ve rarely ever shared my work with anyone, so this was quite nerve-racking, but I’m also proud of accomplishing this step and putting myself out there. This said, I won’t keep you waiting. Here are this week’s prompts (and a link to one of my poems!).

The Best Beginner-Friendly Cameras to Spend Your Money On
The forerunner to the photographic camera was the camera obscura. Camera obscura (Latin for "dark room") is the natural optical phenomenon that occurs when an image of a scene at the other side of a screen (or for instance a wall) is projected through a small hole in that screen and forms an inverted image (left to right and upside down) on a surface opposite to the opening. The oldest known record of this principle is a description by Han Chinese philosopher Mozi (ca. 470 to ca. 391 BC). Mozi correctly asserted that the camera obscura image is inverted because light travels in straight lines from its source. In the 11th century Arab physicist Ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen) wrote very influential books about optics, including experiments with light through a small opening in a darkened room.
