The life of a First Year University Student
University has always been believed to be this amazing experience in which you live the best few years of your life. It is a stage of life that impacts young people all over the world. But does the expectation really fit the reality? I'm going to be looking back at my experience of freshers, making friends, living away from home and balancing work with play all in your first year. I think that first it is important to say that it's ok if university isn't for you, you shouldn't feel in anyway under pressure to go. University should be something you want to do and experience. On that note, let's get on with looking back on my year.

Graduating in Lockdown
What comes to mind when you think of 'graduation'? The event is something that seems to end every coming-of-age movie and can certainly feature as a symbolic moment of new beginnings in practically any other genre. Perhaps when you hear the word 'graduation', you think of your own memories - walking across the stage, your parents clapping proudly in the audience, the weight of the gown and the sweat on your forehead, partly from the nerves, partly from that infamous graduation cap. Maybe you drank so much with your friends that you struggle to remember the day in its entirety. Or perhaps these are all the moments you are looking forward to. Working hard on assignments and exams, all with the image of yourself collecting your hard earned diploma on a stage, along with all your peers and friends - the prospect of graduation day is a beam of hope, a source of motivation and a milestone every student works towards throughout their academic career.

Achieving My Goal I am Fikremriam Mekonnen originally from Ethiopia, Africa. I was living in the capital city Addis Ababa, which is also the capital for Africa. In addition with the city developing at a rapid pace recently, the country in general is going through economic and political reforms. My family can be labeled as middle level with the criteria of income. Since kindergarten, I had been an outstanding student with my grades. When I was in preparatory level, I have participated in wide range of software related competitions and researches. We won the tournament hosted by the education bureau for preparatory schools which focuses on designing a registration system for one selected school. And we finish third on the regional competition. I started programming and designing systems at that level.

The day I learned about the power of writing
Okay, so, from the age of 4 to the age of 9, I was the type of student who hated writing. I hated writing so much between those years. I was more of a girly girl, meaning, I was sassy, and I had attitude. Should we mass promote all students because of COVID-19?
The global coronavirus pandemic completely shocked the entire world and changed things suddenly unlike any other event in human history. Shops either remained open at limited times or closed down, strict health and safety guidelines were implemented almost everywhere, gatherings had to be cancelled or suspended, many workers suddenly found themselves unemployed, and classes were also forced to be suspended. Just like work, education has forced itself to find ways to continue or studying would be sidestepped only until the risk of getting COVID-19 becomes lower. With that, schools and universities turned to online classes so that students could still continue learning from their homes while the coronavirus is still roaming around. However, many students were not happy with this idea, and they went on to campaign for mass promotion for all students amidst the pandemic. Are they right to fight for such idea?
