Hey mama! Are you feeling absolutely overwhelmed by emotions after having your little one(s)?

Postpartum Depression is REAL and it is NO JOKE!

Every mama knows that our bodies take on A LOT of stress before, during and after our pregnancy. Our hormones are throwing house parties within our bodies and we can’t help but feel their damages.

Most people assume postpartum is us moms scared or nervous about either becoming a mom or what that job description implies. Speaking from experience... that rarely has anything to do with it.

There is a HUGE misconception of Postpartum Depression! Many people like to assume “Oh she’s just nervous about being a new mom, or, she is just scared because she went from one kid to two.She will be just fine!”

For some mother’s, that couldn’t be farther away from the truth.

So, you may ask, what are some ways to help myself feel like ME Again? How can I get through all of this? It just seems impossible to do!

Well, let’s get started then!!

Step 1: USE YOUR NOSE

You truly won’t understand the impact and importantace your nose holds untill you are put in a high-anxiety level situation. Your nose, will save you in these types of scenerios!

Trust me on this, I carry a travel size hand sanitizer from Bath & Body Works in my favorite scent; Winter Candy Apple, in my purse.

Anytime I feel myself getting stressed or an overwhelming group of unrecognizable emotions piling on, I whip out my sanatizer, put a little on, and SNIFF SNIFF SNIFF!

Maybe if your not a handsanatizer type of woman, try a soft cloth or even a cotton ball with a sprinkle of your favorite essential oil; lavender, geranium, or even mandarin, will do just the trick!

By doing this, your body sends happy signals throughout your body called endorphins, that will help with relief in an anxiety packed moment.

Step 2: TAKE TIME FOR YOU

A common question many of us mothers face within ourselves, including myself is, “Who the hell am I?”

The common answer, “I don’t even know anymore, a mom?”

Get in back touch with your passions, your likes and your hobbies; Reading, meditation or listening to your ultimate favorite song on repeat, regardless of what it is, take a few minutes from your day to focus on YOU!

We are so focused on making sure we are the best mom and providing the best kind of life for our little one(s) that we have a tendency to put ourselves on the backburner.

Taking an hour or maybe two, out of your busy mom life and diving into something that sparks a love of enjoyment or peace will quiet your mind and lower your anxiety.

Step 3: DESENSITIZE

Force yourself to do that one thing that makes you unfortable to take a step out of your comfort zone.

The more you expose yourself to the culprit, the less time you spend on listening to that negative voice in your head telling you, you can’t, or your not capeable or worth it.

For myself, it is the simple, yet terrifying act of attending a job interview. The terrifying fact of putting myself out there or rejection from a company I spent hours to days preparing for would simply be enough to just hit the “I QUIT” button.

So, I would force myself to go. To help gain self-confidence, I would practice infront of the mirror or with a friend or family member and tell myself, I WILL GET THAT JOB, before attending the interview. I have a 95% success rate and have landed several high-income jobs with a good mindset, and you will to!

Overcoming a fear is one of the best ways you can reward yourself as an individual and on your path to feeling confident, healthy, and happy!

Step 4: EXERCISE

I know! I know! How in the world are we going to want to get up and excercise when batteling with the effects of Postpardum Depression?

It is as simple as 1, 2, 3!

1:Choose a sport or activity you enjoy doing

2: Find a GROUP to participate in

3. Get up & GO!

One of the most common emotions that we spend countless hours trying to improve is the feeling of loneliness or just a separation from ourselves and the world around us.

Try taking a yoga class or taking part in a team sport or maybe plan a weekend run with friends and their kids.

The simple fact that your out of the house, in a new environment; whether it is with the people you care about or a an entirely new crowd, exercising with a group will help calm your mind and allow you to expose yourself to the world of social empowerment! Haven’t you heard the saying, “The More the Merrier?

Step 5: VENT & VENT SOME MORE

By Priscilla Du Preez on Unsplash

No matter how many times we tell ourselves we are alone or no one will understand me, keep in mind we live in a world FULL OF PEOPLE!

Sometimes just venting to someone you trust like a friend or family member is a great and healthy way to ease your PPD. Sometimes, they won’t offer their advice because they know that venting is just what we need!

Maybe your family members or friends haven’t gone through what you are struggling with so perhaps talking with one or a group of people who have been through the same obstacles you are facing may make your ventaing experience more effective.

Where can I find those people???

Joining Facebook Groups that are meant to help support women struggling through PPD has been my GO-TO in connecting with like-minded individuals facing the same challenges or have overcame the same ones and can offer great support and feedback whenever and whatever the issue I may be facing that particular day or week!

In the end, you can 100% overcome this! I have complete faith in you! As a mother of two kids whose struggled with PPD with both pregnancies, finding yourself again is challenging but comes with the most AMAZING reward as soon as you reach the finish line.

In a month or two from now, when you ask yourself, “Who the hell am I?”

Your answer is sure to have changed.

Make YOU a priority! YOU are a BEAUTIFUL mama and YOU deserve YOUR BEST LIFE!
