fact or fiction
Is it fact or merely fiction? Fact or Fiction explores the myths and beliefs we hold about our family dynamics, traditions, and if there's such thing as a 'perfect family.'
Ollie & Mama
Besides my mother, my favorite thing in the whole entire world was storytime. I didn’t care if it was at school, the locker rooms at the Y, overheard on the city bus—a story was a story, and I craved that action-packed word-porridge of plot and characters and decisions and twist and turns—oh my.

Sh(un)Common Knowledge
You, my friends, are LIARS! Don’t get offended or too hasty, because I did call you my friends first. I’m a LIAR TOO! We all are. Our parents lied, our grandparents lied and our kids will follow suit. Our leaders, politicians, and preachers all lie. The billboards, the banks, and everything on the News. Our Businesses, the scientists, and even your boss too! ALL LIARS! If anyone has ever told you that they don't lie, it is a lie! This is not to pass judgement on anyone. I can assure you that my “liar-pants” have been on fire for 36 years. No, this is more of a cordial invite to a dinner party. The main course: TRUTH sirloin marinated in homemade LIES with a side of GOSPEL gravy. It can be a little tough to chew at times, but we still cook it to perfection. No need to R.S.V.P., because it's cooked in your own kitchen.

Walking to the 21st Century
________________________________________ It’s the first day of summer vacation. It’s 6 a.m. and I’m wide-awake, alert and eager to get started. My sisters are all snuggled down in their bed enjoying their leisure with a long sleep-in.

Exactly What We Need
It is a frigid January morn, not unlike those of winters past. The land was blanketed in a fresh coat of glistening crystal while snow. Snow so white, so fresh, so deep and so cold. The air is fresh and crisp, a deep breath may cause a cough or two. Few animals dare to come out to play or forage for food today. However, there is a coup of young small squirrels playing in the distance. The occasional chirp from the birds in the trees. Not many though, not many. For this January morn, the temperature is well below zero. Nine O'clock A.M. and still below zero? Why this is unheard of, what is going on in the Universe today? There is something strange and exciting about this day that lie ahead.

Empty Nester
What does a parent do when their child leaves for College? Im sure every family that has children leave the nest go through many different stages! I have seen movies where the children come home and their bedroom is exactly how they left it! A shrine of their childhood.

Passport to Life
I sit in a city square, viewing a tin plate of beans and pap with great anticipation. My worldly possessions have been stolen - twice - since my travels began. My dad sent me a bit of money to get me home, but I sit here wondering if that is what I really want to do…

Karli Knows Things (Part 1)
Karli Knows Things – Part 1 ©March 2021 Robert W. F. Taylor By any standards, Karli was a typical teenager, struggling to find herself and discover who she really was amid a hoard of other teens trying to sort out their lives as well. She dealt with the pressures of her age group in a positive way, determined not to let them get her down. “I try not to spend too much time in my head,” she said one day. “It can get to depressing and I hate being depressed. I just let things happen and deal with them as they happen.”
