fact or fiction
Is it fact or merely fiction? Fact or Fiction explores the myths and beliefs we hold about our family dynamics, traditions, and if there's such thing as a 'perfect family.'
Absent
ABSENT I held the picture in my hand, the only picture I had left to remember her face. It had been torn, burned, and ripped but I still took it everywhere I went. The woman in the picture that I constantly stared at with longing desperation, is my Mother. Now, I say mother but she didn’t raise me, in fact I have never met her or even heard her voice. A mission or journey I should say is what I embarked on, that scorching summer day in June. Summer in California makes you feel as if your blood is boiling, but I was fixed on her. The woman in the picture, the woman with the dark eyes and Raven Black hair, and I too have these exquisite traits . Up until this day I was made to believe that I was different; Deceived, lied to, and trapped in a life that was truly never mine. On the back of the picture were too small words, Don’s Diner.

Bunny Haven
Once upon a time there was a family of bunnies who all lived in a burrow together. They were a family of four, but the runt had died during birth, which was a sad time for the rest of the family. All the family had left was a girl whom they loved so much. The family named their girl daughter Rosalina, because they saw her inner beauty that was like a rose, but she didn't see it in her. One day as she was talking to her parents a question came to her, it was about her little sibling. The question was “Do you remember my little sibling, who passed during birth?” Her parents answered as best they could. They said “ Of course we remember your little sibling, we think about her/him all the time. We miss her/him very much and wish she/him was here with us right now.” Rosalina’s mother said to her “ Always remember passed family members, it will make you feel good about yourself, when you keep their memories alive.” Rosalina’s mother’s name was Spotty because of all her spots. Her father’s name was named Sparky because of the way his coat looks in the sunlight. Later that day Rosalina decided to go lay down, and take a nap to clear her mind…. When suddenly she hears singing like that of an angel. Soon she realized that it was her sibling who had passed during birth, who was coming down in a transparent light that sparkled in the sunshine. Her sibling approached her saying”Rosalina I’ve come to warn you about a group of hunters who are traveling to your land, looking for bunnies to kill and make into bunny stew. You will need to evacuate and find somewhere else to live n the span of four days, or you will surely be killed. Rosalina looked at her sibling extremely shocked plus astonished. Slowly her sibling started to ascend into the sky like a magical light fixtured bubble which was sparkly white in color. Rosalina all of a sudden started to chase after the bubble light and then out of nowhere slipped into a magical source (also known as a portal) getting transported into an alternate universe. It was a place just like her own but completely ruled by bunnies and full of bunnies. She didn't realize it at first, but Rosalina thought this place was sensational, gorgeous, incredible, and beautiful. Later the bunnies introduced their town as Bunny Haven where all bunnies can be free and have a special place.

Perdido
“I’m lost,” The young boy says again, his small, quiet voice screaming in my head. Forcing me to listen, I look down at him, his dark brown hair falling just shy of his eyebrows, his bed dress a grey colour, drowning him in the material. And his beautiful lapis-lazuli eyes gazing at me with hope. I look away in shame and close my eyes tight to block out the image that is before me. I hold back tears with all my strength, not wanting to show the young one my guilt. As I look back to him, all I see is the edge of the cliff. I turn sharply and see the boy standing behind me, he coughs and I fly backwards off of the edge.

After the X-Ray Dorothy anxiously awaited the results of her test, as the doctor came into the room, grinning with relief, believing that he had great news.

The Invention of Santa is Asinine
The "Magic" of Christmas ....This is a tough one... I was raised in a home with a Loving family, that would break their back to make the magic happen. They Loved the Holidays and Christmas was always the one everyone invested the most in. Being the eldest of 5 kids also made it interesting, because once I found out Santa wasn’t real I was basically blackmailed into maintaining the lie so that I didn’t ruin it for the other kids.

Little Runaway
I was 12 years old when I ran away from home, at first, finding refuge at homes where I befriended older people locally and, eventually, hitchhiking across the United States for nearly 2 years. I remember the moment I chose to leave. It felt like a do or die situation and I often ponder what my life would be like had I not made the decision to leave. I know now that Everything Happens For A Reason!!!

I woke up as the opposite Sex!
9:00 AM. I wake up from the voice outside my room, “Raani, bring two more slices of bread in the dining area” Amma hasn’t knocked my room door yet. Why hasn’t she wakened me up? It’s been more than 30 mins from my daily-expected sleeping time. Why have I not bathed yet? If my family is out, having breakfast, why am I still in bed? Why has my mom not asked me to make Omelette or toast the bread? Am I dreaming?
