My Brother: The Storyteller
It is hard for me to look back on a childhood filled to the brim with stories and imagination and pinpoint just one favourite bedtime story. Many warm nights were spent cuddled up in bed, with Mum reading me and my brothers a range of fantastical stories. Or Dad regaling to me (for the hundredth time) the adventures of a young Dana and her faithful companion, Smokey the Horse, whose name he conveniently misremembered as Stinky every single night. My home was one that truly fostered the sense of wonder and imagination that comes hand in hand with the bedtime story. There is, however, one character that stands out to me when I reflect on the storytelling of my childhood, whether it be the made-up games, the terrible self-authored and directed plays our parents were forced to watch, or the intricate and recurring bedtime stories. My older brother, Matthew.

CANOPIES
Autumn was in the yard and we ran in the tall grasses like thieves. Armed with wooden swords given to us at Christmas, we gave chase to one another in the waning sunlight tinged ochre with warm October comfort as dinner time approached and always too soon. If I laughed, he laughed. If I cried, he cried. Such was the way of us. Shaun and me. Baby brother in the last sun.

Am I there yet?
The thing about writing about who you really are is the memories are not always pleasant and often painful to recollect. As I’ve mentioned before I was destined to follow my heart to become an artist, and like many artists our passions are so deeply and selfishly centered to where we don’t always have control over who gets hurt.

The Glow Worm Show
For the first six years of my life, I was an only child. Despite having the full and complete attention of my parents, the night-time ritual of books at bedtime was never embraced by either of them. In their defense, the VCR hadn’t been invented yet and it was the Golden Age of television. There were only about five channels but they offered all of the timeless icons like the Six Million Dollar Man, Charlie’s Angels, and the vast variety of well, variety shows.

Antics of a Little Brother
At 21, he would cringe to think of this now, but when he was little, my brother Jonny was always up to something. His imagination married beautifully with his sense of practicality and he always felt that he could fix whatever challenges came his way. He would see things on the news like emergency evacuation, or natural disasters, or even sudden mishaps and he would take into his mind to be very prepared.

The Tale of Two Bunnies
The Significance of Two's Before you get to the heart of this story, let me first tell you that it is not at all about bunnies. At least, not entirely! I used them here as a reference form for literary symbolism! Largely in part because outside of my window today, I literally saw TWO BROWN BUNNIES!

Surprise Him with Rakhi Gifts for Little Brother
It is a beautiful feeling of having a little brother. Growing up together, you would have stood with him, teased him, irritated him, adored him, fought with him and at some point of time, you would have fought for him. You would have always been good at pulling each other’s legs.
