The Diamond in the Rough
Today (Wednesday) was payday for me and I wanted to celebrate and splurge because I made it through another month without having to pawn anything. That's a joke, but if you live check to check like I do, then you know that a little splurge can surely do wonders for cheering up the spirit. I asked my husband if we could do a "memory lane" stroll through my favorite town in Pinellas County: Gulfport. He agreed and we chatted as I gave praise to all the beautiful houses there as we drove up main street. I saw some new buildings and businesses, remembered the places I stayed when I was getting to know the town, and then had him drive off the beaten path to see if the old "greasy spoon" was where I used to dine with my mom. It is, but it's no longer a greasy spoon. It has been updated and given a face lift. The outside has fresh paint and stylish tables, the inside is cleaner and has a new look, and it is now called "Comfort Cafe" with the little French chef logo. It's absolutely charming and we had a lovely lunch there.

Doughnuts Around the World
Wouldn't it be wonderful traveling from country to country waking up every morning with some hot coffee and a fresh and new doughnut? It would be difficult to do but you can read about the kinds of doughnuts that are made in various countries and then dream about this delicious, sugary treat.

Trip(s) to Italy (Travel from Home #2)
It all started with some pasta I wanted to try. So my next travel from home destination was Italy. I asked my BookCrossing group for recommendations and got so many! I ended up choosing two books from my To Be Read mountain. The first book has been on my TBR shelf for about twelve years now (it was on my friend’s Italy list in Goodreads) and the second is an audiobook I also got through BookCrossing and hadn’t even realized was set in Italy.

Home of the Rat-Trap
When I think of hometowns my mind always goes to the types of food that you can get there. Now, maybe I just have an unhealthy relationship with food...okay I probably do...but I'm pretty sure most will agree that when we think of a town that just gives us that hometown feeling, it's because it has some epic food!

Breakfast in Savannah
I have previously gushed about my love of minivacations and, as luck would have it, I recently had the pleasure of taking one. We went to Savannah, Georgia, the Hostess City of the South. I had passed through on a couple occasions over the years, but this was my first full deep dive. I’d seen the beautiful oaks with the contrastingly beautiful Spanish moss hanging from its branches and the strikingly varied architecture, but I’d never had a chance to really appreciate it in all its grandeur.

The Family Pizza Tour
There are two things every family enjoys. No matter who you are or where you come from, we all love a road trip and we all love pizza. This summer we decided to drive from our home in Saskatchewan to visit our families in South-Eastern Ontario. A 38 hour road trip, in a Yaris, with a nearly 3 year old who is full-on three-nager and a busy 6 year old boy.
