A Short Heist
Independence gained
Mark left the bank for the final time that night with his ratty briefcase in hand. He held it close to him as he rode the bus toward his pre-planned destination. He had been at that bank for 18 years, without a raise in five years, and they owed him something. Before he left work that night, he had walked into the safe, filled his case with as much cash as possible and walked out.
When he arrived at the train station, he went to the window and bought a ticket to Michigan. No one would look for him there. He could start over with a new name, money now not an issue. He left behind his family, his past and his crime, he thought. He was now free and financially independent. He could go anywhere, do anything, be anybody. He would lay low for the first year or so until they stopped actively looking for him.
When he got off the train in Detroit, there was a slew of cops waiting for him. They took his briefcase from him, handcuffed and escorted him out. He had been free and financially independent for all of 3 hours.

That was awesome how you built a comforting new reality for him that lasted but 3 hours. Great Micro! Editorial note: At the end of the second to the last paragraph you wrote. "law low" I think you meant "lay low" I only pointed it out because I want to see this get Top Story. Good luck with the challenge!
