Reflections
As J waded into the shallows, the water crept up his thighs, and his teeth began to chatter. There were goosebumps on every part of his body and the hair on his arms prickled. He was chilled to the bone, but J was on a mission. Once the water was chest height, J inhaled deeply and submerged himself entirely. The shock of the icy water was enough to make anyone gasp but after a few seconds, his body acclimatized to the temperature. It would have been a pleasant evening he thought to himself as he treaded water. The moon was shining through the clouds and the air was brisk, but not too cool considering the time of the year. J looked at his watch, it was almost time.

A Sign of Good Fortune
Edward stepped off the plane and walked down the stairs, evoking a thirty-nine-year-old memory. Back then, as a child travelling with his parents Ecuador was exotic and new. He was thrilled, riding the high of expectations despite the exhaustion of travel. He remembered stepping to the bottom of the plane’s stairs outside of the terminal and walking across the apron toward Customs. There had been a line of soldiers preventing the new arrivals from skipping past the Customs line, and he dutifully followed along.

Journey to Nomadland
I woke up in jail with the jackboot of a SWAT team officer pressed down on my back. Choking from tear gas, grabbed by my hair, handcuffed, and thrown into the back of a paddy wagon. This was not a dream or an anti-vax demonstration flashback. I was under arrest for joining a homelessness rally. After all, America was great again. I worked as a business development executive and my employer bankrupt.

Chapter one: What's your name again?
Two months have passed and I still haven’t found the ancient Jedi texts. Planet after planet, ruins after ruins and I still haven’t been able to sort through my feelings as well. I sigh heavily, my head beginning to throb mercilessly, groaning in pain. This is the second headache today... I hold my head in my hands, turning it a little to the noise of a message coming through. I go to press the comm button to listen to it when suddenly I feel a jolt of my ship coming out of hyperspace. I tilt my head up and a vast, big, blue nebula is coming up; and fast.

The Car Wash Redemption
“Seriously?” gasped Randy, “You want to borrow my rifle to shoot what?” “Sorry man, but that does not compute. Besides, I’m out of bullets and the hardware store is closed now and nobody else around has the same gun as I do and, and, and, a million other reasons and excuses why you shouldn’t be thinking about doing what you are thinking about doing. What the fuck’s the matter with you anyway? This isn’t the wild west you know. You can’t just go around, shooting shit up because some guy pissed you off . . . ”
