A Long Walk
“Soon,” he would tell his friends, who cared for him in his old age, “I will go for a long walk into the mountains.” A week later, bedridden, his gaze softly turned up to meet a beloved friend for the last time, a goldfinch, perched on his windowsill. Observant, the man’s subtle expression, teary-eyed and smiling, wasn't comparable to the overwhelming beauty of their reunion and the intense feeling of the awareness of life in its entirety; experiencing two final blessings. The two would be found sharing a bed, and the journey of a walk into the mountains.
