Total darkness

A man feels he is completely engulfed by a void he cannot escape

The darkness was total, complete, and merciless.

He could see nothing, and it was as if he could feel nothing either. Nothing, that is, apart from the vague notion of an exit in the distance. The phrase ‘a light at the end of the tunnel,’ sprang to mind.

That’s it. There was a light, visible right over there. He reached out towards it, sure that this was the way out.

“Hang in there, buddy!”

Who said that? He heard the words but couldn’t see anyone. He heard nothing else from then on.

“Okay, I’m calling it. Time of death: 00:13.”
