Sci-Fi Movie Women of the 2000s
Too often when we think “women in sci-fi” we think of what used to be called “scream queens,” that is, the actresses who appeared in scores of latter day B pictures running from extraterrestrials on earth or grappling with tentacled creatures on spaceships or what have you. For this survey we want to pay homage not necessarily to the genre regulars (although you’ll find one or two along the way) but to the performers who made the most unusual and in many cases iconic impressions. The following list is not compiled in any particular order. Each woman has contributed enormously to the universe of sci-fi through their respective roles. Here are our favorites from the 2000s.

Scariest Sci-Fi Movies of the 90s
The US government reported that there were more alien invasions in the 1990's than any other decade. Of course, this was only in the movies. When it comes to scariest sci-fi movies of the 90s, fans enjoyed them because they were both frightening and satisfying. The combination of fear and science fiction proved to do well in the box office, but what did it do to our minds? Movies like Deep Blue Sea made our weariness of sharks even greater, while the 1990 film Hardware, made us second guess all of the ever-evolving technology that is all around us. Classic sci-fi horror films have a way of making us wonder, "Could this happen to us?" which is sometimes the most terrifying of all. And of course, as technology improves, so does the believability, which makes the sci-fi movies of the 90s even more terrifying than their predecessors.

Coolest Star Wars Aliens
That galaxy far, far away wouldn’t be quite as special without the coolest Star Wars aliens we all know and love. Some of these aliens make a huge difference in Star Wars canon, affecting generations after them. Others on this list are just plain awesome and we enjoy seeing them in action. From the lovable and loyal Chewbacca to the unique crowd that gathers at the Cantina and even the Sith Emperor, the coolest Star Wars aliens are an important part of the Star Wars universe. Most of these Star Wars aliens are from the seven movies but a few of the lesser known ones come from Star Wars Legends, because every alien deserves a little recognition from time to time.

Greatest Space Opera Books of All Time
The space opera has become a staple sub-genre of science fiction. Funnily enough, like all things unusual, the term 'space opera' began as a mockery. The term referred to them being typical, dramatic 'soap operas' with the added specialty of having some 'spaceship yarn' woven into the uninspiring plot. However, this sub-genre has now evolved into something much bigger and has produced some true masterpieces. For this list, we will be considering 'space opera' as a work of science fiction with the bonus of occurring or relating to space. Costuming 'Star Trek The Motion Picture'
Bob Fletcher created more than 700 costumes for the Star Trek movie in less than 10 months, directing in excess of 200 drapers, cutters, tailors, operators, finishers, plastic workers, molders, shoemakers and assistants who had been hired to make his design concepts a reality. Star Trek—The Motion Picture was the first of the Star Trek films and debuted in 1979. William Shatner, Leonard Nemoy and George Takei made up some of the cast for the feature film, following their roles on the television series that aired from 1966 to 1969.

Most Terrifying 80s Sci-Fi Movies
Maybe burying your dead pet in that haunted cemetery wasn't the best idea. Whether it's Pet Sematary or The Fly, America loves horror movies. Add some science fiction into the mix, and it's a recipe for disaster for the characters, but success in the movie business. Terrifying 80s sci-fi movies encompass everything that scares us—whether it's the terror of death or disaster—but they also make us think long and hard after the movie is over about its scientific realities. Could we really have a serum that rejuvenates dead people in the future like Re-Animator? Or would we really want our dead cat Fluffy to come back from the dead like Pet Sematary? Or what if, like in Parasite, we were run by an organization other than a government and they wanted to control the population with a deadly parasite? It's the mystery of terrifying 80s sci-fi movies that drive us to watch them over and over.

'Saturn 3' Was the Weirdest Sci-Fi Movie
In March of 1977, the late John Barry approached producer/director Stanley Donen with an idea for one of the weirdest sci-fi movies ever pitched, which contained elements of both the Frankenstein tale and the biblical story of Adam and Eve. Donen liked the idea and offered to raise the money for Barry to make the film. Donen then took the story to Lord Lew Grade and Martin Starger, whom he hoped would back the project.

The line between science fiction and fantasy is a thin one. How are spaceships and super advanced technology capable of shooting fireballs so different from, say, a wizard doing the same? It's not surprising that the two genres have many crossover fans, and it's not too uncommon for movies to cross the two genres as well. You might think the idea of wizards flying around in spaceships and shooting lightning bolts from their hands sounds ridiculous, but there's a movie you've probably heard of that does just that.
