Why Are We Drawn to Punishing Difficulty in Games?
Difficulty in games has been on an interesting journey over the past three decades; the early generations of NES and SNES, where extra lives and continues couldn’t come soon enough, turned into more modest offerings in 3D. In the first half of the 2000s, we saw a tough title here and there, such as Ninja Gaiden’s 3D outings, but these were mostly relegated to the hardcore crowd before gaming went mainstream in 2007.

Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog is by now a globally recognised icon, but even the most bombastic of icons has to have a humble beginning, and Sonic's story begins in the appropriately titled 'Sonic the Hedgehog', often affectionately known as 'Sonic 1', being the place where it all started. Originally released on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 1991, it has since been ported to a large number of other outlets and devices, most recently in 2013 for mobile devices in a remastered edition. A game over 25 years old is still in demand, still widely played and recognised by gamers and casual players alike.

Nostalgia Trip - The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Oblivion hit me in all the right spots. Despite coming out way back in March 2006, it does not feel dated. Its vast visual appeal and genuine high-fantasy setting remain incredibly captivating. I spent many hundreds of hours within the game, creating at least six characters and completing the main quest line with four of them. Despite all of this time commitment, I am yet to feel anything resembling boredom when returning to this experience.

The "No Zombies" Playlist
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I find the best and weed out the worst. Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I get the perfect excuse to dig out the monster movies and games (like I really need an excuse considering I already coveredtwo horror movies last month). They eat up the entire month of October for my girlfriend and me, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
