More Ideas About Expanding the Assassin Creed Series

My All-time Favorite Series

Having been a fan of Assassins Creed since getting Origins over this previous summer, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this particular game. I have since bought other and played the other games in the series, such as Unity, Syndicate, and recently Black Flag. I played Chronicles, but I just could not enjoy it even after beating the first level. Granted the idea of having an Assassins Creed game that places during Ming Dynasty China, 1840’s British occupied India and Russia after the October Revolution sounded nice, but the whole game was a side-scrolling situation instead of open world.

I am not here to discuss why I like the series, but rather as to what the people at Ubisoft could try doing for the next one. I already purchased the Deluxe Edition of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and I have been loving it since I got it.

What I have here are ideas (which you can disagree with) for what Ubisoft could considering do for their next idea in the Assassins Creed series.

Note: this might sound similar to my Assassin's Creed or Far Cry post, but it's not. I just could not submit this article to Listverse and Game Crazy Blog isn't responding.

1) The Viking Era

Source

The idea of the Order of the Assassins raiding the European coastlines during the Dark Ages may or may not have crossed anyone’s minds. But with the “For Honor” game having been made by the same company and having a Viking Faction, why not have the fierce warriors of the north be part of the Assassins Creed series? My idea would be where the protagonist is a Viking warrior betrayed by his clan, witnessed his family being murdered and is out for revenge. The Assassins would help him out with this.

The game could take place during the time of Ragnar Lothbrok where you even meet him or Charlemagne. It could also take place during the time of Leif Eriksson and his discovery of the New World. Whatever the case, what would one think of a bearded Viking Assassin?

2) Japan

Source

The Genpei Wars was a a series of conflicts between the Taira and the Minamoto clans for control of the Imperial Throne near the end of the 12th Century, taking place right near the time of the first Assassins Creed game. The Templars could be the Taira and the Assassins Minamoto?

The Mongol invasion of Japan, Kublai Khan’s attempt to take control of the island nation and how his fleet was destroyed twice by a typhoon. What if the Templars manipulated the Mongolians into trying to take Japan and the Assassins were trying to prevent that?

The Sengoku period was a series of conflicts with various clans trying to unite Japan. Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Ieyasu Tokugawa were the three unifiers of Japan, with Ieyasu founding the Edo period. What the Assassins and Templars would be accomplish in this conflict is the question.

The Bakumatsu period went from 1853 when Commodore Perry opened up Japan to the East to 1868 with the fall of the Tokugawa Shogunate. It was a bloody time period for Japan, especially for foreigners, as it created conflict for those who supported the Shogunate against those in Japan who wanted to learn from the foreigners on how to improve the country.

What would the role of the Templars and Assassins be in this era?

3) The Wild West

Source

Red Dead Redemption 2 by Rockstar games is coming out late in October of 2018. But what if Ubisoft tried to do the same idea? If Ubisoft doesn’t try it for the next Far Cry game they should experiment with it on Assassins Creed.

It could take place in the days leading up to the Civil War where the Assassin is helping slaves escape or it could take place a few years after the Civil War with the main protagonist having been a Templar deserter during the war where he/she is trying to make amends for past sins by helping locals in fighting a corrupt rail baron that serves the Templars.

Protecting Native Americans, helping out the local townsfolk, mining for gold, bounty hunting, and aiding US Marshals would definitely make the game more enjoyable. Having famous lawmen and outlaws like Jesse James, Wyatt Earp, Billy the Kid and Will Bill Hickok would definitely fit with the theme.

4) World War 1

Source

For those of you who have played Assassins Creed: Syndicate, you are no doubt aware about the optional side sequence that you can access at the beginning of sequence six of the main game. This proved to be an interesting side quest, but what if Ubisoft did more with this time period? The Assassins from the British Brotherhood fought on the side of the Allied Powers and the Templar's of the German Rite fought for the Central Powers.

I think it would be nice chance to see another WW1 game be used, not to mention I myself would like to see more of Lydia Fyre the granddaughter of Jacob Fyre in action. You could also take on the roles of other Assassins across worn torn Europe. One could be in France, another in Italy, the deserts of North Africa or the Middle East.

Meeting famous people, of course, would be a necessity. Like meeting a young J.R.R Tolkien at the Battle of the Somme, Ferdinand Foch or even the most revered fighting ace of that conflict Manfred von Richtofen or known to history as “The Red Baron.”

The plot of the game could be the Templar's attempting to expand the war or even continue beyond the fighting beyond its historical end date and it’s up to the Assassins to stop them.

5) Mexican-American War

Source

This lesser known conflict was the controversial conflict of the 19th century and the further expansion of slavery in America. For the Mexicans, it was a means to prevent further expansion of American imperialism. The Templars would be on the side of the United States while the Assassins are on the side of the Mexican forces.

Once more the question of whether or not the gameplay would be where the gamer chooses to be Templars or Assassins is a question I pose.

6) The Hundred Years War

Source

A conflict that had lasted a hundred years decided who would rule France: the French themselves or a puppet of the English. Many things can happen between the Templar and Assassin order, considering the fact that the Templar order was eliminated the same century as this conflict started. It could show how the Templars wanted vengeance against the Assassins from the very beginning.

It could take place during the time of Henry V at the battle of Agincourt or even the Siege of Orleans with Joan of Arc.

7) China

Source

Four ideas come to mind for this one

The Three Kingdoms era was a series of conflicts between the kingdoms of Wei, Wu, and Shu for the chance to unite China once more. Which side the Assassins would be on in this conflict is the question. The character would meet such figures like Guan Yu, Cao Cao, Sun Quan and even Liu Bei.

The Qing Dynasty would certainly prove to be an ideal time period for the shadowy conflict between the Templars and Assassins. The Templars could be on the side of the conquering Manchu and the Assassins on the side of the rebelling Han Chinese. It could take place during the revolt of the Three Feudatories or even the Taiping Rebellion. It could also take place during the final years of the Qing Dynasty and have the events of the game lead up to the Xinhai revolution that ended the Qing Dynasty.

The Warlords Era of China followed the death of Yuan Shikai who tried to revive the Qing Monarchy. There were many factions that fought against each to unify China and create a single leadership. The Templars could either be on the side of the western powers trying to take China for themselves or on that of one of the more powerful warlords, which then the Assassins Guild would have to take on.

The fourth and final idea is that the game could take place during the Japanese occupation of China. Missions would involve assassinating members of the Kempeitai, aiding rebel forces, sabotaging Japanese weapons, blowing up railways; anything is possible if it took place during this side of the war. Chinese Assassins versus Japanese Templars would sound rather interesting.

8) Japanese Invasion of Korea

https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.timetoast.com/public/uploads/photos/8885801/DSC03606.jpg?1475012971

The invasion of Korea by Japan wasn’t just done in the early 20th century. Japan did it before near the end of the 16th Century.

The invasion was as a result of Hideyoshi Toyotomi wanting to conquer the Joeson dynasty of Korea. The combined efforts of Joseon Korea and Ming Dynasty China brought the invasion to a standstill until the death of Toyotomi in 1598 and the Council of Five Elders ordered the withdrawal of the invading Japanese forces.

During this time period, it could feature again Japanese Templars versus the Chinese Bureau of Assassins while recruiting Koreans amongst the ranks of the Assassins. Missions would range from sinking Japanese ships to stealing information from the Japanese to harassing supply lines.

9) Wars of Alexander the Great

Source

In between the events of Assassins Creed Odyssey and Origins would make this ideal. For it would connect to Assassins Creed Origins because Origins takes place around the time of Cleopatra and she was the last ruler of the Ptolemaic dynasty before the Romans took over.

There were many conflicts that defined the times of Alexander the Great, so it would be rather difficult to peg down any one place where this version of Assassins Creed would take place.

One thing would be certain in this game, is that character would have to meet with Ptolemy otherwise there would be no further connection to Origins.

10) World War 2

Source

You were probably expecting this one, weren’t you? I once read a piece about Ubisoft not wanting to give the series a World War 2 setting, but why not? Out of the many devastating conflicts that happened in human history this one made us take a good look at ourselves as human beings.

If there was to be an Assassins Creed game that took place during this time period it would have to involve saving Jews from being sent to the infamous death camps of Auschwitz and Dachau. It could also involve recovering art that was stolen from museums and various families, along with aiding the D-Day invasion, sabotaging German warplanes during the Battle of Britain, aiding the various resistance groups in France, Poland or even working with the Bielski partisans. OSS based assignments would also be made available and maybe even have it be where the Assassins fly warplanes.

A thought occurred to me on this one: what about having the Templars work with the Assassins on this one? The Templars want control but would they go as far as being involved in the Holocaust? If that doesn’t work out, the game could have many of the Templars defecting to the side of the Assassins out of disgust for the Templars defending Hitler.
