Hardcore Tarkov – 30 Days Later
(Intro) As of the uploading of this video, it’s been a full month since the hardcore wipe began. And over those thirty days, a lot has happened. Some of it for the better of the game, others have me still scratching my head as to why changes were made so soon after the whole thing was released. It's been kind of a whirlwind with everything going down on top of just playing the game and trying to make the hardcore experience work and to be successful in it. Luckily, it hasn’t been all bad, but there have been so many changes and iterations that we should have a conversation about the hardcore wipe in its entirety. Take Tarkov for What It Is
(Intro) For a lot of people, myself included, playing Tarkov these days has been much more than just the going On's that we’re so accustomed to. It isn’t so much about questing, grinding to level up, getting max traders or fighting other players with end game gear. For some, those elements are still fresh and new enough that they feel rewarding and inviting to fully engage with and commit to, however long it takes to reach your own personal goals. But for many others, the current gameplay loop even under the guise of a hardcore wipe, is proving to be somewhat of a slog. Which is why so many of us hope and pray that the 1.0 version of this game will be different enough that it feels new. In the meantime, I’ve recently been spending some time during my raids just appreciating the game for what it is. Despite all the problems, the drama, the BS and baggage that is associated with Tarkov, I’ve tried to put all of that to the side and just find the fun that this game can still provide even after thousands of hours. And there is still a surprising number of things that I still enjoy and appreciate in this game, which is something I encourage everyone to also try; just find the fun in this game, even if there isn’t much left to enjoy.

Tarkov's Skill Ceiling is Infinite
(Intro) Tarkov’s skill ceiling is arguably infinite. The game has so many complexities, mechanics, knowledge checks, and skill gaps that for those who are looking for places to improve in the game, there are tons of avenues to get better over the course of your time in this game. EFT is certainly up there regarding mechanical density and nuance that you will just figure out over time. But depending on what part of the game you want to improve, it will take a long time to fully figure those parts out. And some that you may never truly master. And that’s the best part; for all the bad that there is within this game, the amount you can invest into Tarkov and still discover new things about after thousands of hours is truly incredible. The fact that for someone looking to get better at fighting other players, that probably has the highest skill ceiling out of everything you could invest time into. If you’re able to look past the problems and enjoy the game for what it is, you will be learning potentially forever. So, let’s break down what about the mechanics in this game creates this infinite loop, the easiest and hardest things to learn, why fighting other players is so coveted by many and let’s hypothesize how much we will need to relearn when 1.0 happens.

'Bumpers & Broadswords' is Rad
If you've been following this blog, you know how enamored I am with mongames. Two mongames that have captured my interest are the deeply flawed Metal Walker and Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule GB. In the case of Metal Walker, it has an unreasonably high encounter rate and capsules that are too inconsistent to plan a strategy around. While Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule GB is lacking because of its constant grinding and dice rolls that often determine the outcome of battles. However, the saving grace for both games lies in their battle systems. Metal Walker with its Flip Battles (turn-based pinball), and Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster Capsule GB's MC battles (monster-raising chess). These innovative battle systems provoked a desire to enjoy them without the baggage, and I'm pleased to say Bumpers & Broadswords delivers just that.
