The Inescapable Imbalance
Spider-Man was a fun film. I mentioned in my review of it however that there is a flatness, a not-quite-there-ness about the whole affair. Wrapped in the hype of the Marvel Cinematic Universe I wondered if this was to do with studio pressures and the lack of true surprises holding back the film; but there is also a much bigger problem, overlooked by virtually all reviewers. Homecoming illustrates a problem in blockbuster filmmaking: the lack of parts of value for women. Such roles that would ideally be independent and not subservient to any male characters around them.

Even the Vampire Queen Battles Insecurity
Insecurity has plagued every single one of us in some shape or form. Sometimes it's because we beat ourselves up and at other times, it's because of external forces; i.e: people we may know or hardly know, a video on YouTube that attacks several habits or traits you may have and so forth. We find our solace through various mediums and a highly popular one is television, more specifically television shows such as the popular Adventure Time. Let's dig a bit deeper here and extract the beloved Marceline Abadeer and see through her point of a view, yes?

R. Kelly is Exposed... Again... And You're Surprised?
Yesterday, Buzzfeed published a scathing new article. The subject? America's number one pervert, just edging out Bill Cosby, R&B singer R. Kelly. The piece claims that Kelly runs an abusive "cult," made up of young, barely legal girls, at his compounds in Atlanta and Chicago. The girls are under Kelly's complete control and have to ask his permission before they do anything, even use the restroom. Whenever they disobey, they are "punished" by Kelly, either verbally or physically. They are trained by a house mother, who at the ripe old age of 31, is the oldest of the group. Kelly is 50. Several of the girls' parents say they haven't seen or heard from their daughters in a year or more.

Dear Cosplayers: We Appreciate The Face Claims
From the most famous of cosplayers such as Alodia Gosiengfiao to the most underrated ones like my friend KuroiPit, I am very grateful that they exist. Not only do they destroy the status quo, but they make stunning face claims for avid roleplayers such as myself. This has been a topic on my mind for years since I first began creating stories with fellow RPers and finally I am able to put into words how I truly feel. This is not only an article, but an open letter to the cosplayers who have managed to change the game. First off, I want to apologize for the RPers who have abused every cosplayers' photographs in a degrading fashion. It's time for the voices of both roleplay and cosplay to come together to resolve the years of damaged caused by the degenerates of the world.

Is Ken Kaneki Too Impressionable?
Recently I had a healthy discussion with a friend about the beloved main character, Kaneki Ken. In both seasons one and two of Tokyo Ghoul, we've all had the pleasure of witnessing two amazing and drastic changes in the ghoul's character. My friend feels that because Tokyo Ghoul showcases that there is both good and bad when it comes to both the Ghoul investigators and the Ghouls, it makes it hard to pick a side to root for. He feels that the show lacks substance because of this, but I humbly beg to differ. I mean, after all, isn't that how real life is? There is good and bad in every part of the world, in every section and I think the main point of Tokyo Ghoul was to highlight that very fact.

A Double Feature
Part of my preparation for Jasmine’s visit was picking out movies for us to watch while she was down here. The three I chose were the 1990 film adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale, since we both watched the recent Hulu series, and Moana, which we saw together in theaters on my last birthday.

Hilarious Seinfeld Moments
Seinfeld is one of the few shows out there that seems to be able to nail what life really is like. It's a show about nothing and everything at the same time, and it really does reflect all the strange, awkward moments in everyday life, specifically in the New York City.

Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop Turns 30
As RoboCop turns 30 years old this month it’s as good a time as any to look back on the career of director Paul Verhoeven and examine his unique oeuvre. Verhoeven’s career is marked by overreaching his talent. It is marked by attempting to deliver great, thoughtful work that comments on humanity via characters and storytelling and then settling for titillation of the lowest common denominator kind. To put it metaphorically, throughout Verhoeven’s career he’s become known for using a chainsaw when he should be using a scalpel.
