Okay so Wonderman was not a series I was excited for when it was announced. And there are many reasons for this, the biggest being that without his Wanda storyline Wonderman is a boring and irrelevant character. So when the premise of the show was announced I knew it was going to be better than I initially expected. Most of the feedback I've seen from the internet is positive. The only thing that raised a red flag for me is that people were glad all at once because they didn’t think it would work week to week. So if you are releasing a show and it “wouldnt work” in its intended format then you wrote a bad show. So that is one of the things I will be assessing.
Now this still takes place in the MCU so something superheroey has to happen, though I sort of like the idea of just experiencing characters in the universe admiring heroes without being a part of them.
I am so in love with this guy dissecting the scene in such a nitpicky way for a bit part. It's crazy. I love it. It's such an actor thing to do. Especially if you are serious about your craft and actually want everything you do to mean something. I feel for him already.
Oh buddy…”your process is what's in your way” yeah he’s doing a lot. Your “process” just lost you a job. Maybe your process needs to change.
I love that Trevor is on some sort of secret mission here to do who knows what. I don’t believe whoever was on the other end of the phone. I like to lead with skepticism.
So far it is very entertaining, it's paced well and I am loving the structure.
This self tape scene is the best, “I read all off camera lines”, but bitch has no clue what she’s doing. Yeah a self tape out of your apartment is more than fine.
Trevor is an interesting character because his role in Iron Man 3 was truly terrible and that movie sucked ass, truly it could not have been worse. His role in Shang-Chi was the comedic relief mcguffin. He was there as a plot device because the writing of that movie was also truly horribly written (I know a lot of people liked it but I promise it's just because you haven’t bothered actually thinking about it).
“Just be normal” his agent is so over his overthinking bullshit. And I totally get it. He is overthinking everything. I totally get diving into a character like this if you have a lead. If it's like an actual ongoing character where all this backstory and analysis does actually inform how the character moves through the world then sure. But for 1 line parts? Buddy come on just do your job and get paid so you can get yourself to the role you actually get to creak down.
I do like this is more of a The Industry, Studio kind of show where it's a look into Los Angeles and functioning as a creative in it. Trevor and Simon have actually bonded over the fact that they are serious actors. Whatever Trevor was supposed to be doing might fall to the wayside here. He might become an actual character in this series which I would greatly appreciate. We see him hesitate so much while fulfilling his responsibility.
I love the reveal at the end of the second episode. It not only tells the audience that Simon probably does have superpowers that he's not fully in control of but it also gives us a bit more into Trevor's character arc. I am loving this so far. I think this could have worked one week at a time, I think the actual problem is that social media has fried people’s attention spans. That’s all it is. If you have brain cells and patience it would have played just fine released one at a time.
