The Mystery of Viral Penguin Part 2
Mystery Viral Penguin

They survive only on what they ate before leaving the sea.
But the greatest sacrifice is made by the male penguin.
After laying the egg, the female transfers it carefully onto the male’s feet without letting it touch the ice.
Then all females return to the ocean.
Meanwhile, the males — already starving — stand close together in brutal storms, holding the egg on their feet.
Imagine this:
For the next two months, the father stands without eating or drinking in temperatures as low as –60°C.
He does not even move, because if the egg falls, it will freeze instantly.
By the time the mother returns, the father has lost more than half his body weight.
If the baby hatches before the mother returns, the male produces a special milk-like substance from his throat to feed the chick.
These are the last drops of his remaining energy.
This is the father who protects a new life without caring about his own death.
That is why Emperor Penguins are called the best dads in the world.
But are all male penguins that caring?
Maybe not.
Among Adélie Penguins, males are famous not for sacrifice… but for stealing.
Yes — the same species seen in the viral video.
While Emperor Penguins are known for devotion, Adélie Penguins are considered the most mischievous and clever birds in Antarctica.
Their nesting behavior is strange.
Since there is no grass or wood on the ice, Adélie Penguins build nests using stones.
The better the nest, the higher the chances the male will be chosen.
In their world, even one stone is as valuable as a diamond.
Instead of working hard, males often steal stones from neighboring nests.
Sometimes, they fight over a single stone all day.
Their nature shows they are highly social and hyperactive.
Their breeding system is more balanced than Emperor Penguins.
Both parents take turns guarding the egg while the other goes to feed.
Their breeding colony isn’t as deep, but they still travel up to 50 kilometers inland.
So the question remains:
Why would such a social and intelligent animal suddenly wander toward death?
When Werner Herzog saw this, even he was shocked.
A penguin separated from the crowd and began walking in the opposite direction.
Scientists called this behavior a psychotic breakdown.
Sometimes, whether human or animal, the brain’s wiring can cross.
Penguins have a built-in GPS navigation system.
Scientists believe they can sense Earth’s magnetic field like a compass.
They also use the sun’s position, stars, water flow, and smell to navigate.
But sometimes, due to brain infection, parasites, extreme stress, or starvation, their brain can glitch.
At that moment, the penguin no longer sees its companions or the sea.
Instead, a wrong path becomes fixed in its mind.
But what happened to that penguin?
Can animals feel sadness?
Science says yes.
When a penguin chick dies, the parents often refuse to leave.
They stand beside the dead baby, making strange sorrowful sounds.
Sometimes their grief becomes so intense that they try to steal another penguin’s chick.
So is it possible that the viral penguin had lost someone dear?
Perhaps.
Science may call it a neurological failure…
But viewers feel the penguin was suffering from distress or depression.
Herzog did not try to save it, because Antarctic law forbids interfering with nature.
That lone traveler kept walking toward the mountains until it disappeared from sight.
Beyond that point, there are only endless frozen peaks.
No fish. No water.
That penguin likely collapsed from hunger and exhaustion, freezing somewhere under the snow.
The world of penguins teaches us so much.
On one side is the Emperor Penguin, risking his life to protect new life…
And on the other side is the lost traveler, leaving everything behind for an unknown destination.
