Reed Alexander's Review of 'He Never Died' (2015)
HENRY MOTHER FUCKEN ROLLINS!!! Yeah, I was likely going to eat this movie up even if it was a total wash, but I did make the best, albeit half-assed, attempt to look at the movie objectively and see past my man crush on Uncle Hank. So I took this movie for what it was, for what it was, and it was pretty good. There was solid action, pretty good acting, funny at times, and it certainly didn't take itself too seriously.

H'ween Horrorthon: '1408' (2007)
"This is it?" - John Cusack as Mike Enslin, upon entering the titular hotel room. Hello one and all. Horror movies in the 2000s had grown quite stale in my opinion. Gone were the genuine chills and thrills of the 60s, 70s, and 80s yester-year when filmmakers cared about their audience. Films that were about flesh and blood characters going through their worst fears and putting us through Hell and back were gone. Ghosts, vampires, kids-with-freaky-powers, psycho-killers, werewolves, witches, sharks, demonically-possessed-children, flesh-eating-parasites, beasties, gremlins, and sickos were a mainstay in each of those decades. The previous decade just decided to reboot or remake some of those horror movie memories, thinking that CGI and slick panache would do the trick. Or, just as bad, they'd take some of the best horror movies from Asia and Americanize them, thinking that the same story would work here in the states. Some of them may have worked: The Grudge is one example. Some didn't: The Ring is one of those examples.

Bus Stop
The night was nearly pitch black, and the cold rain just made it harder for me to see. I almost didn't see the woman standing beside the bench. Her rain-soaked hair covered most of her pale face, but I could see that she wore a medical mask. She looked away when I approached, almost as if she were avoiding me. Maybe she thinks I'm a mugger or something, I reasoned with myself. I tried not to let her antisocial behavior bother me, especially since I wasn’t feeling very social myself. Neither of us said a word as we waited for the last bus of the night. I pulled my phone from my pocket, but my battery was dead. I frowned as I searched for my portable charger, only to find that it had somehow slipped out of my bag. The single-strip light that bathed the bus stop in its dim glow started to flicker. The hair on the back of my neck stood on edge as my eyes struggled to adjust. I feared that the light would soon burn out and I didn’t want to be left in complete darkness with the strange woman. I tried not to look at her, but I felt like she was inching closer and closer to me.

Monster Mash
"Once upon a time a midnight dreary I ponder weak and weary," just like the macabre writings of Edger Allen Poe. It kinda reminds me of those monster movies we used to watch when we were kids. You know the Boris Karloff or Bela Lugosi flicks that always came on TV mostly on Saturday nights when television was so young. Whether it was Frankenstein or Dracula and others we were all entertained. In more than one instance as kids we tried to make a real life monster, just like the Frankenstein movie we watched that previous Saturday. We literally turned our parents garages into "Laboratories." On so many occasions the Saturday night monster movies were showcased by Soupy Sales who hosted Shock Theater. As kids we begged our parents or did anything just so they would let us stay up to that ungodly hour of 10 o'clock when Shock Theater came on. Huddled under blankets ever so near to those small TV screens, we were glued to the tube as they say until the very last.

Her chest heaved, searching desperately for air, as her body weakened with each step. She had been running for so long. The cold of night had brought chills to her skin, even as she ran. Darkness enveloped her — only a few small rays of light peaked out from the canopy of tall trees that surrounded her. I must find somewhere to hide, she thought to herself, frantically searching along the distant tree line.
