I'm Sorry I Let You Down
Allan Crawford was running on the campus as if he was being chased. In reality, he received a call that one of his visitors, a student by the name of Emily Bennett, had an incident involving sinking herself in the pool usually occupied by the college's swim team all with the knowledge that she couldn't swim. He started with a professional composure as he received the call that she wouldn't be able to come visit him or go to her other classes for the day, but he didn't even go through the entire phone conversation before rushing to the nurse's office where he was certain Emily would be.

What I Can't Give Up
Friday, June 18, 2106 6:24 PM I walked down the sidewalk with a half-smoked cigarette in my left hand. I could smell a smokey summer barbecue cooking nearby. How nice is that? To have family or friends come over and spend time together during summer... Oh, but does "summer" even exist anymore in this utopia-like Hell? The smell of cooked meat absorbed into my nostrils as I took a long drag out of my cigarette. I could hear laughs and loud voices. Truly, how nice is that? I fondly remember all the best things about being a human. FUCK. Something just hit me on the back of my head. I turned around and noticed a nice young lady in a yellow dress standing in front of me. Her red hair was wet from swimming and hung above her pale shoulders.

Trinkets
I wandered through town that afternoon in search of something to kill my boredom. It was 2:46. School had been let out less than ten minutes ago and all my friends who usually explored our small city with me had either stayed behind for some scholarly reason or gone home. It was a crisp, fall day. The leave were brown and fluttered to the floor as I walked. The world seemed calm.

Escaping the Cage
Marbella Ashbrooke had been given the duty of watching her younger sister that day but as usual, Luciella had wandered off after playing in the kitchen garden. Marbella rushed to the gate at the far end of the wall, heart pounding as she shot out into the bright evening sunlight. This wasn't the first time Luciella had vanished but something felt different. Even Lady Ashbrook, a woman not given to panic or nervousness, had all but thrown her younger children to the maids and raced out to join the search. When Marbella had sent a nursemaid back to the bower to report Luciella's escape, Lady Judith had gone wild with worry exclaiming how she had known something was wrong before the maid entered. Father had pulled together every available man, woman, and teenager to search for the girl who had been happily playing at midday and was now nowhere to be seen in the fading light. A small army of people were now racing around the manor and its grounds, striking Marbella like the nymphs and sprites from her books as they darted back and forth. Long shadows had begun to stretch across the grounds from the forest beyond the house and the air had become so tense that Marbella found it hard to breathe.
