Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark' (2019)
What do I say about this movie? It wasn't bad. Actually, it was quite clever but some how it was also really bland. I don't know, maybe it's because it was yet another PG-13 horror movie, which always manages to hamper the movie by castrating the good stuff. Maybe it's because it was based on a children's book and it was bound to be kinda soft. I think maybe they wanted to introduce this to a younger audience but in a way that still appealed to the adults that remember it. I don't know, like I said, it was clever but it just didn't impress me.

The Little Black Bird
“Shoo, demon bird, get off of me!” I yelled and swatted. A bird with glowing red eyes had started following me a few weeks ago, every day its visits were a little more frequent. Today was the worst so far, no matter where I went it wouldn’t leave me alone.

The Mythical Creature Of The Woods
“Eamon, help! Please Eamon, we really need your help.” This message, or yell for help was broadcast straight into my mind. There’s only one person who has the magical ability to talk to another’s mind, but only if that person is also magical, in some form or another.

The Face in the Wall
Terry’s day started with the previous shift dragging Inmate Harrison from his cell. The two officers, old pros at this, had him cuffed up and held under each arm, the yard Sergeant coming behind as he manfully attempted to hold the inmates kicking legs. Sergeant Leeman wasn’t a small guy, somewhere between a bodybuilder and a sideshow strong man, and even he was having trouble keeping a hold of the struggling inmate. Harrison was six and a half feet tall and most of it was ankles and elbow. As they took him out, he was screaming loud enough to shake the cobwebs in the rafters.

Town Committee
*Seneca Village was a very infamous place that held a deep dark history. A history and tradition kept alive yearly by the Town Committee. Violet Night, is an annual phenomenon organized for decades by the most prominent members of Seneca Village. Greenwood Park housed a glorious clock tower directly across from the town's only church. The clock tower rings at the moment this eerie event occurs.*
