movie review
Movie reviews for horror fans; from gruesome bone-chillers to dark horror thrillers, a showcase for frightful films that seek to entertain and to terrify.
'The Witch'
Too often modern horror movies are not scary in the traditional sense. Classic horror films would unnerve you and stay with you for weeks after viewing them. Modern films tend to have people running around in the dark, screaming with dodgy camera work and every scare in the film is down to loud music cues and flash editing. In other words, the story itself isn’t scary or getting a reaction. The filmmakers have to use simple tools to get a response from the audience.

10 of the Scariest Movies that Aren't Horror Movies
We all may shrink in terror when we get a good jump scare or feel a certain chill when we seriously creepy movie villains in action, but there's a limit to how scary something fake can be. The terror you get from traditional horror movies are often limited by special effects or by the knowledge that it's just a guy in a costume.

Movie Review: 'A Quiet Place'
Welcome, everyone!! Wow!! This was the most quiet movie you will ever see in a theater and it was absolutely fantastic! From beginning to end, the movie caught all of our attention and left us at the edge of our seats. It was very suspenseful and it was sad when the father had to sacrifice himself to save his two children and left his family behind.

'A Quiet Place' Is Very Suspenseful but Falls a Little Short
All I knew about A Quiet Place before going to see it last night was that it was a horror film and making noise meant you were in big trouble. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski don’t waste any time expediting the urgency either, and the weight of the silence heightens the tension from the outset.

Movie Review: 'Truth or Dare'
Truth or Dare, or Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare, if we are skirting copyright issues, is a silly, silly movie filled with dopey characters on a pointless quest for their miserable lives. As directed by Jeff Wadlow, the director behind the abysmal, franchise-killing Kick Ass 2, Truth or Dare takes a child’s game and renders it even more insipid and hateful than it already is.

Review: 'Unsane'
While many are focused on Steven Soderbergh’s mode of filming Unsane, they might miss just how exceptional the film truly is. The fact that Soderbergh, the auteur behind Traffic, Erin Brockovich, and the mind behind mainstream blockbusters like the Oceans franchise, made Unsane on several different iPhones is certainly notable, but the important thing to know is that he has made one incredibly chilling horror thriller.

5 Horror Movies for Non-Horror Fans
Sometimes loving horror isn’t easy. While we personally love having the crap scared out of us, or watching a bunch of teens being brutally devoured, for others it’s a living nightmare. We all have that one person in our lives who flatly refuses to watch anything that remotely resembles a horror, either out of a lack of appreciation for the genre, or simple because the idea of deliberately terrifying ourselves for pleasure is moronic, or legitimately terrifying. If you’re lucky it’s someone you don’t care for, a friend of a friend you see occasionally and begrudgingly. Other times it is your significant other or best friend. If the latter is the case you are in deep trouble. When it comes to spending quality time with good friends the last thing you want to do is waste it arguing over what to watch.
