The Worst Horror Movies of 2017
Horror movies already don't have a particularly good reputation in the film critic world—and it's easy to see why. These movies are often poorly written, overly campy, and at times, will rely on cheap jump scares or splatter to get their "scary" point across.

Best Horror Movies of 2017
Horror movies will always be popular because nothing is more exciting to see in the theatre then a creepy film that has you on the edge of your seat. A well-executed horror film is not easy to pull off, it takes a subtle hand who really knows when to go for it and when to hang back and build tension, and for this reason there is no shortage of terrible ones.

My In-depth Review/Retrospective of Phantasm
The Review: Hello and welcome to my first review. Phantasm is a film that is very close to my heart. This is due to the fact that it is one of the few movies that consistently frighten me with each consecutive viewing. Which for me, is rare within the American slasher genre. As I really don't scare so easily.

Movie Review: 'Corpse Party'
In making a movie out of a video game, there is a lot of risk involved. In one, you risk alienating the loyal fanbase that game has, or simply making a mockery of it. The Super Mario Bros. movie had a few good things going for it, a few nods to the game series, otherwise, it was a title about and otherworldly dystopian world with little to do with the source material, and sadly, the bad outweighed the good. Then came Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, I could go on. In fact, these days, you see more movies based on games than the other way around, especially when Acclaim was still in business during the 16-bit era. Another thing to consider is most of these game franchises were created in Japan, with American and Canadian film studios making the movies.

Movie Review: 'Raw'
I hate the movie Raw. I hate every second of the movie Raw. This challenging cannibalistic French horror movie put me through the ringer for 99 challenging minutes and I hated it. And yet, I can’t say it isn’t a damn brilliant film. Director Julia Ducornau directs this movie with such surety, such confidence and with such undeniable wit that I have to admit my appreciation of the film as a work of art, even as I will never watch Raw ever again.

Best 80s Horror Movies of All Time
Some of the most infamous horror movies of all time came out of the 1980s. As movie producers in the 2010s run out of ideas for scary movies, they frequently default to creating remakes of huge 80s franchises (like the ones we're about to tell you about). You might not have realized it before now, but today's pop culture (shoutout to Fabolous and Jadakiss's new single) is largely influenced by the best 80s horror movies.

Best Horror Comedy Movies of All Time
Horror is one of the most serious genres there is, but horror comedy movies are hellbent on turning the genre inside out. Writers, directors, producers, and actors pay homage to the horror films that came before them by flipping the script, and the results are fun, thrilling flicks that satisfy both our curiosity, and our need for laughs. And don't assume all of them are stupid, either; actually, many of these movies are rather clever.

Movie Review: Martyrs (2008)
As part of our Christmas celebration each year on the Everyone is a Critic Movie Podcast, myself, and my co-hosts, Bob Zerull and Josh Adams engage in movie gift exchange. We each buy each other a movie, watch the movie and then talk about it in a special bonus podcast. This year, Bob’s not so Secret Santa gift for me was the bizarre and fascinating 2008 French horror movie, Martyrs.

'It'
After hearing about a new adaptation of the famous Stephen King novel It, I couldn’t wait to see the film. The novel was written in 1986 and has been terrifying audiences ever since. In 1990, a mini-series adaptation of the novel became a classic as well. How could it not be with Tim Curry playing the infamous Pennywise? Incredibly striking imagery including red balloons, bloody sinks, creepy clowns, and werewolves. Which did not disappoint anticipating audiences when the trailer for the movie came out. The novel takes place in '57–'58, then It returns in '84 and '85. The mini-series takes place in 1960 while the second part takes place 27 years later when Pennywise comes back to terrorize the town again.

Top 5 Horror Movies of 2017
2017 wasn’t a great year for mainstream horror. The genre suffered through a year packed with terrible sequels, prequels and remakes. It was a year that featured the return of the Chucky Doll to little to no mainstream notice. We got the backstory of Leatherface and watched another horror legend fail to make it past the On-Demand world. The Hellraiser franchise returned again and was met with almost universal ignorance. The biggest return of 2017 was Jigsaw and what a letdown that was. Jigsaw came back and underwhelmed by forgetting what made the previous entries in the Saw franchise so entertaining.
