The Turkey Bowl
The Bat (1959) Maybe I should have called this the "Toilet Bowl" instead. Two or three barnyard atrocities have plagued my viewing pleasure lately. The first to come under my undeniably masterful cinematic scrutiny is the wretched 1959 Vincent Price film The Bat, which is in the public domain so would get me a copyright strike if I tried to upload it to YouTube. I guess you can call it a Vincent Price film as he's the most famous cat in it besides Agnes Moorehead (who twitch-nosed her way as Elizabeth Montgomery's cantankerous old broomstick-riding momma in the television chestnut "Bewitched"), who spends a lot of her time here with her arm extended behind her and pointing at staircases. The film is based on a play that was based on a novel and all of them were by Mary Roberts Rinehart and it all started with 1908's The Circular Staircase and then the play The Bat (1920), and then a 1926 silent adaptation by Roland West, the husband of Thelma Todd. (Todd, by the way, ended up dead in an automobile after Groucho Marx famously told her she'd have to "sleep in the garage all night" in the movie Monkey Business (1931), which is undoubtedly far superior to this movie.)

Cry of the Werewolf is a surprisingly atmospheric old horror film whose chief drawback is the fact that, unlike Lon Chaney Jr., actress Nina Foch doesn't go about with yak hair glued all over her face. Instead, she transforms (this is shown only in shadow) into a literal wolf, not a wolf-human hybrid horror. Strike number one.

Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'An American Werewolf in London' (1981)
First of all, this movie is just good horror. They did abso-fucking-lutely everything right for good horror. The atmosphere is dark and foreboding, the plot is smart, layered with drama, but twisted, the FX are noted as some of the best back in the days, and the concept is actually scary. I mean, this movie is currently credited with arguably the best werewolf transformation in horror history. The effects were so damn good for practical FX and the acting really sold it. It's arguably better than great CGI, and it's some of the best body horror you'll ever see.

Cult Films and Midnight Movies "From High Art to Low Trash" Vol 1 By Tom Baker Dr. Phibes Rises Again stars Vincent Price in the Bob Feust-created surrealist horror comedy paen to Phantom of the Opera, James Bond, "Batman" (television series), and even Les Vampires (1915). Phibes is a comic book character straight out of pulp horror fiction, his face a prosthetic mask covering a hideous, acid-scoured visage that looks more decrepit corpse than human. His lips never move, and Price's priceless intonations are heard through a giant Victrola-like device with a huge, old-fashioned flower-shaped speaker.
