This is satire. Or, is it?

Despite cellphones, women being allowed to bear more than their ankles, and the age of marriage getting older, the concept of a spinster still exists. A "spinster" is an unmarried woman of a certain age. Comparatively, an unmarried man of a certain age is called a "bachelor". (Of course, this also follows heteronormative ideals cause only a man can alleviate a woman of her spinster status).

The bonafide spinster age has moved up from about 27, but if you reach 35 as a woman and have never been married, you might as well forget it. The questions about when you're going to get married will start to die down. Your married cousins will look between their children and you with pity. Your parents will hang up the Christmas card of you and your cat alongside those of their grandchildren.

Well meaning people will tell you never to give up. That love can come later in life. And, maybe, they're right. But, honestly, what's the point? Why waste time looking for "the one" when you can curate your own life. Listen, you know who will always love you and depend on you? Who will show their love subtly, but openly? Who will never have expectations you cannot meet? Who will love you no matter what you look like?

Your cat.

Here's 5 reasons why giving up and becoming a spinster cat lady is better than ever marrying a man.

#1: Your Cat Will Never Beg For Love

Sure, your cat may meow for some pets, but it is easily remedied. Your cat will never demand you give up your free time for a weekend spent with them. In fact, they'll demand that you give them their space sometimes, but never for too long. You'll never find a cat taking too much of your time or being needy. It is simply not in their nature.

#2: They Sense Your Emotions

Cats have an innate ability to sense your stress or distress. It does not take tears falling or even the words, "I'm upset," for them to know you need a cuddle or a warm, purring body on your pillow. Even with less affectionate cats, they will check on you and potentially provide a questioning trill. They'll absolutely never say the wrong thing or ask you not to feel your emotions for their sake.

#3: They're Self Sufficient

Your cat relies on you, particularly for food, water, shelter, and love. But, that doesn't mean that your cat needs you to provide these things. Cats are independent souls who can provide for themselves if needed. Why are there more stray cats than dogs? They're simply better at being stray. However, that doesn't mean they don't deserve to nap on your couch, but they certainly do not need to.

#4: They Don't Come With Baggage

Even the most stray of stray cats do not come with extra baggage to worry about. They'll simply inform you of their preference to continue living life as they are and go on their way. They are straightforward and know what they want. You will never have to worry about a cat coming to you with emotional baggage that they do not make clear from the start. Cats will not unload an unpredictable amount of baggage on your doorstep.

#5: They Meld Seamlessly Into Your Life

No need to change your routine for your cat. As mentioned earlier, they are fairly self sufficient and will adapt easily to your schedule. A cat will not demand that you stop working as much or stay home to take care of their kittens. Your cat can take care of its own shit. You won't find yourself changing for your cat.

ncept of a "spinster" still exists.
