Respect is a core value that everyone holds dear. When we talk about respect concerning people, it’s all about having admiration or esteem for someone, usually based on their achievements. While everyone deserves respect, not everyone gets it.

We all want to be respected by others, but not everyone achieves that. It’s important first to understand what makes someone respectable before we can extend our respect to them.

First off, remember that to earn respect, you’ve got to give it too. It’s a two-way street. The concept of 'respect' might seem straightforward, but its effects and meanings can deeply shape how we see ourselves and others, as well as how we tackle future opportunities and decisions.

Many successful relationships thrive despite differing political or religious views, but at the heart of it all is respect. These relationships are built on the idea that both partners are equal, and that power and control are shared fairly. In a relationship, respect means listening to each other, valuing each other’s opinions, and understanding each other’s feelings.

If you want to be seen as respectable by your girlfriend, here are some handy tips to help you out.

1. First and foremost, you need to have self-respect. Treat yourself with dignity. If she sees that you don’t respect yourself, she might think it’s not important to show you any respect either. Have some boundaries that you will definitely not tolerate or cross and explain them well.

2. Remember, what you give is what you get. Show respect if you want to be viewed as respectable. Everyone craves admiration and appreciation. By letting your girlfriend know she matters to you, you’ll easily win her over. Be attentive, give her compliments, and make sure she feels comfortable and happy when she’s with you. Just appreciate who she is and really listen when she talks. This way, she’ll love spending time with you.

3. Keep it cool. Women often find men boring if they come off as dull. So, when you’re out on a date, relax and have a good time so she feels great around you; if she thinks you’re a drag, you might get rejected. If you can make her smile, she’ll respect you for being that fun person who can brighten her day, even when she’s feeling down. Don't be too goofy though and overdo it. It will have you looking like a fool and a simp.

4. Don’t lie. It’s no secret that women hate being lied to. If she catches you in a fib, she’ll lose respect for you. But if she sees that you’re always honest with her, she’ll take pride in you and show you more respect.

5. Be confident and polite. Make eye contact when she’s talking to you and show her that you’re someone she can trust. Let her know that she can talk to you about anything and count on your support. And don’t forget to be courteous, as this will help build mutual respect. This goes a long way in reassuring that you can be trusted.

In a relationship, respect should go both ways, it's not always one-sided which is what some people may think. This means your girlfriend should:

- Make you feel comfortable being yourself

- Admit when she’s wrong

- Be willing to compromise

- Respect your opinions, feelings, and friends

- Work to resolve conflicts through honest communication

- Accept your "NO" when it comes to things you don’t want to do

So, take a good look at your relationship and see if your girlfriend is meeting these standards. If she’s not, think about using these tips to help her show you the respect you deserve.
