Declaration in Defense of Peru

Dear friends and comrades,

Today, we are here to speak of our commitment to defending human rights and the sovereignty of our Latin American continent, a commitment that unites us against all forms of oppression and external interference. Let’s talk about Peru and the current government of Dina Boluarte, a government that has shown not only a lack of respect for the popular will but also an increasing inclination toward violence, authoritarianism, and a clear subordination to U.S. interests.

Since taking office, Boluarte has responded to popular protests with repression and violence. The demonstrations in Peru, carried out by citizens tired of inequality, corruption, and devastating economic policies, have been met with a disproportionate use of force, resulting in dozens of deaths and thousands of injuries. This has been a direct assault on human rights, to which the government has resorted without hesitation to maintain an oppressive grip on the country.

But the violence and abuse do not end here. Under the guise of stability and order, Boluarte’s government is selling off Peru’s autonomy to foreign interests, particularly to the United States. We see how the country’s most valuable resources, from copper to gold, from gas to oil, are now in the hands of large U.S. multinational corporations. An emblematic example is the Yanacocha mine, one of the largest gold mines in the continent, controlled by the American Newmont Corporation and responsible for severe environmental damage that has devastated the region’s water resources, leaving local communities to suffer the consequences.

Another essential resource, the Cerro Verde mine, was granted to the multinational Freeport-McMoRan, which has reaped immense profits from Peru’s copper while largely ignoring the negative impacts on health and the environment. And what can we say about the Camisea gas field, one of the largest natural gas reserves in Latin America, managed by Hunt Oil? This American company, in the name of profit, has endangered indigenous lands and protected natural areas, demonstrating how Boluarte’s government is willing to sacrifice environmental sustainability and local communities' rights to appease foreign interests.

Moreover, the infrastructure sector has also been opened to American investors, as seen in the Chinchero airport project near Cusco, where foreign investors have made an overwhelming entry, raising concerns about the impact on the land and local communities. Under Boluarte’s leadership, these concessions are not just a sign of selling off Peruvian resources but a decisive step toward total dependence on American interests.

In Peru, as in other Latin American countries, we are witnessing an attempt at modern colonization, where national sovereignty is sidelined in favor of foreign interests. Dina Boluarte has chosen to be complicit in this imperialist strategy, placing Peru under the economic and political control of the United States, to the detriment of her own people. We cannot remain silent in the face of this new form of domination, a form that exploits our resources and crushes our people’s aspirations for freedom.

In conclusion, it is our duty to firmly denounce the abuses, repression, and servile alliance of Boluarte’s government with U.S. power. We demand justice for the victims of repression and respect for Peru’s sovereignty. The Peruvian people have the right to decide their destiny without interference and without being crushed by a corrupt and authoritarian government.

Let us unite our voices against this oppressive system. The struggle for a free and sovereign Latin America continues, and together we will defend the dignity of Latin American peoples.

In conclusion, the event was invaluable as it encouraged mobilization and solidarity among Latin American communities to defend the self-determination and dignity of all peoples.
