If I Were Rich

What my life would look like

What would my life look like if I were rich? I think I know…

I wake up next to my husband in our king-size bed. Our children are downstairs getting ready for school. I can hear them arguing over who will get the last banana bread muffin.

“Okay, I’d better go.” I get up, put on my bathrobe, and head downstairs, our two doodles, Chester and Rufus, following me as I go. Our oldest daughter has the muffin in her hand.

“Don’t make me lick it!” she teases her twin sister.

“Who cares?” the other responds.

“Guys, Maria has made more muffins. Why do you need to argue? Just grab a different one,” I say as I reach for the tin box our private chef, Maria, has prepared.

“Okay, are you guys ready to go?” I ask. My youngest son is already at the door with his shoes on.

“The bus will be at the corner in five minutes,” I tell them. They groan but head out the door. I watch from the kitchen window to make sure they catch the bus. After I see them board, my husband comes downstairs.

“What do you think we should do today?” I ask him.

“What do you say we get brunch in our Aston Martin and go for a drive?” he says, wrapping his arm around me and kissing my neck.

“Sure. I’ll go get ready and let Maria know she can take the afternoon off,” I tell him.

I head upstairs, find my phone, and text Maria. Then I walk into my large walk-in closet. I choose a maxi dress and pair it with the perfect golden earrings to complement the yellow in the fabric. I slip on heels from Kate Spade and open the closet displaying all my purses. The perfect one—gold with embellishments.

My husband is wearing a polo shirt and white khakis. We get into the car and drive off to the golf course, our favourite brunch spot. We sip mimosas and enjoy eggs Benedict.

“I was thinking that this weekend we could go to the beach house,” my husband says, and of course, I’m all aflutter at the idea.

“Should we invite your parents?” I ask.

“Sure!” he says cheerfully.

We finish brunch and walk down the small town’s main street, glancing at the local shops. I purchase some handmade candles and soap. Then we head back home. My husband goes to his workshop to work on his next car project. I head to the stables for a horseback ride.

When I return, I change into jeans and a plaid shirt and take the dogs to the park. I watch them play with the other neighbourhood dogs. Later, I walk to the corner where my children get dropped off and pick them up from the bus stop, with Chester and Rufus at my heels.

The children tell me about their day at school and what they learned. I tell them we’re heading to the beach house for the weekend and that their grandparents will be there too. They cheer excitedly and start packing. I pack some clothes for my husband and let the house staff know they can have the weekend off.

We all get into the Lexus, the dogs settling into the back seat, and take off down the curving roads. When we arrive at the beach house, our family members are already there. The children run to the beach, playing in the water with the dogs. We listen to their laughter and cheers as they splash in the waves.

Life is simple and wonderful.

That’s what I would do if I were rich. I would spend time with my family, and my husband would enjoy his car projects, we would not worry about the mortgage payments, we would have a beach house right on the water. It would be a beautiful life.

This sounds like such a burden-free life, and I can feel the longing. Thank you for participating in my unofficial challenge!
