It's an "Amazon" Christmas
How Amazon saved my favourite Christmas tradition

Ah, the good old Sears catalogs.
There was nothing like them back in the day. One of my favorite holiday traditions growing up was flipping through those glossy pages, circling the things I hoped would end up under the tree. I have a vivid memory of my grandma handing me one after school one day when I was about six or seven-years-old.
I curled up on the couch with a blue pen, furiously circling toys (specifically Barbie Dreamhouses), clothes, and every electronic item that caught my attention. I really remember wanting a drum set. I found a picture of a Sears catalog that I remember from almost 20 years ago.

This week, I got to continue the tradition with my daughter.
How you might ask?
Amazon saved the day, as per usual. They sent me a catalog in the mail geared for kids. And what I loved the most about this catalog, was the prices were not included. They included QR codes for parents to scan.
I love how Amazon geared it for kids. They enabled parents to relive their childhoods through their children with the magic of a simple blue pen and the book itself. It was a complete dream come true for my daughter. Even my oldest son had his interest peaked and wound up circling a few items.
She began picking things for her siblings, and things for herself. Like a Barbie Dreamhouse that she claimed "is a Barbie vacation house in Mexico", and a pink and purple golf set because "she needs to learn how to golf", as well as a Lilo and Stitch computer.
My beautiful daughter even began circling things for children in need which was so powerful to me. She's selfless, kind, and giving at five-years-old. She did wind up circling the whole catalog we were sent by Amazon, but it kept her occupied for hours and sparked a wonderful conversation for the two of us. She is quite excited for Christmas this year.
We would up cutting the pictures of items she wanted out, and gluing them on a piece of pink construction paper. Together, we made a letter for us to mail to Santa Claus which is something I love to do every year with the kids.
I love that she has the Christmas spirit going through her head already. In case you were wondering, there are only 90 days until Christmas is upon us.
I have not started shopping yet which is a rookie move on my part because I usually start by this point. Just a thing here or there so it's not so overwhelming come mid-December.
The Amazon "Wish" Book would have been a dream come true for this socially awkward mama, however there is now a Canada Post Strike again. I won't let that be the thing that ruins Christmas for my kiddos however as I do plan on buying them as many items on their Wishlist as I possibly can.
I am looking forward to this next season with so much excitement for my little family. It's like as soon as the leaves get crunchy and the warm summer air turns cool, I begin a prepping for the holidays: Thanksgiving, Halloween (my personal favourite), Christmas, and of course- New Years.
Thanks to Amazon, I have a huge list of ideas of things to get my kiddos for Christmas as well as a new memory with my daughter. Circling things in a catalog was such a Christmas memory of mine and I'm glad I got to share this with her.
Thank you for reading about this fond memory I have of my childhood as well as sharing the sweet moment with my daughter I got to have this week.

P.S. It's not too early for Christmas music is it?
My grandma listened to her favourites year-round so because Christmas reminds me of her, enjoy this playlist post I wrote a few years ago.
