Woke up this morning and found something. Oh, what’s this I wonder. It looks like a map.

But this isn’t just any kind of map. It appears to be a map of self regulation. “Why do you need that?” Is probably what you’re asking yourself. Well because you’ve become too co-dependent on the people around you. It’s time that you find a sense of autonomy and this is the map that’ll help you find it.

The first stop on this journey to self regulation is walking out the front door. Yeah I know, that doesn’t sound like much of a first stop. Seems like nothing more than a departure point, right? Exactly. The departure point is part of the quest. You can’t get to your destination without leaving from somewhere.

Next up on your journey to being a regulator is saying hi to your neighbor. What does saying hi to your neighbor have to do with the journey? Well, your whole world is currently a one person radius. For the longest time you’ve been looking at this one person to complete you and it’s made a mess out of you. It’s important to cultivate connections beyond just one person because if that person becomes the center of your world you’ll lose yourself and them. Mix it up a bit by having other friends and acquaintances. There’s plenty of em out here and there’s more than enough of you to go around.

I’m glad you had a good talk with that neighbor of yours and became friends because he’s the key to the next stop on the map in your journey. How? You might ask. Remember when y’all got to talking and you both realized you had a lot of the same hobbies like sports, fitness and even gaming? Bingo. The next stop on your regulation map is getting back into your hobbies. You love playing basketball and football, you love going to the gym and you love gaming, whether that be by yourself or with your buddies online. It’s time for you to get back there because these activities are not just leisure for your entertainment. They represent the fun part of who you are.

So what’s the next stop on this map to self-rediscovery? Oh yes. The next stop is perhaps the most complicated part of the journey. Why? You might ask, because the majority of the world will never figure this out. The image you see on the second to last stop on the map is not a silver circle, but a mirror. Yes, the ultimate destination is self reflection.

Look in the mirror and see who you are. The biggest reason why you struggle with self regulation is because you struggle with loving yourself. The reason why you struggle to love yourself is because you’ve been through a lifetime of traumatic experiences that convinced you that you were unlovable. The opportunities that fell through, the people who abandoned you, all of it made you believe that you weren’t meant to be loved. Well now it’s time for you to look in the mirror see the amazing person you are and know that you are loved. Smile, see your inner light, know that you are worthy of love and that no love is greater than the love you give yourself.

And now we’ve reached the final destination on our journey. You see the last stop on the map? Looks familiar doesnt it? That’s because it’s your home. Congratulations, you’ve taken all the necessary steps to regulate yourself and now the journey is complete. Go now and be free.

Journey to autonomy was always my gig until it wasn't. Codependent is not healthy and neither is complete autonomy

  • “Hi!” Oh the journey to autonomy, thank you for a map! Great entry!
