Leticia’s little black book

I’ve always been the type of person that believes that things are always destined for change, and that if you do good in life somewhere  along the line something good will come back to you in some way, shape, or form. Not that I go out of my way to do good things for people just so that good things will happen to me in return that’s not how it works. I guess it just has to be in your heart basically for it to work. But after I tell you my story then you can decide for yourself how good things happen to unsuspecting people in their times of need , and does God know our basic needs,  does he hear our calls , and does he  know our struggles , and if. He answers our prayers when we need it the most…

This is my story , called Leticia’s little black book... Lately things haven’t been going well for me. I have not been sleeping well at night , just tossing and turning, I was a complete mess. Needless to say, I still needed to carry on with my everyday life. I was behind on my bills , I was about to be put out of my apartment any day, and my relationship was on the rocks. I was just laid off from my job, my car had serious problems, and my bank account was overdrawn. I began to feel like my own worst nightmare, what was I going to do, how was I going to fix these problems. In a matter of days I’ll be on the streets with no where to go, and nowhere to live.

To cheer myself up I decided to go to Goodwill, thrift shopping has always helped to take my mind off of things that seemed to trouble me. I always seem to find a treasure or two when I go there. So off I went with the few dollars I had in my pocket. Finally I arrived there , hoping to find a bargain of some sort. The place was packed, I navigated my way through the crowd. I snatched up an outfit that I thought would look savvy enough to get a new job along with a pocketbook to match and some brand new shoes. Pretty fancy I might say , and I placed them at the register. I was pleased with my find , I smiled at the clerk, and she said, “did you find everything you needed today?” My smile said it all. I nodded politely “yes indeed I did”.

My day out at the goodwill was all I needed to brighten my spirits from all that was on my mind. I couldn’t wait to get myself home and try it all on, and practice my speech for potential new jobs. When I reached home I put my bags down , I looked in the mirror, did a once over and said “this too shall pass” tough times won’t last long Leticia. I grabbed my new pocketbook from The goodwill and I inspected it, I put it over my shoulder, pranced up and down, then  back and forth, spun around on my heels and then proceeded to put my hand inside the bag.

Inside I felt a small sized book, I retrieved my hand back out of the bag and I opened this little black book. Inside was a handwritten letter attached. It said “to whom it may concern whoever finds this little black book you are now the new owner of it. I know in fact times are hard for everyone and this is why I’m including a check for twenty thousand dollars. Please accept this check as a gift from me to you and in your new black book write all the reasons you have to be thankful for the life that God has given to you and why you are blessed to live it. You should be able to fill every page with all the good that outweighs the bad in your life , you only get one life. Money isn’t everything but remember that life is.”

I was shocked and amazed about what I held in my hands and I began to tremble and shake. Tears of joy rolled down the sides of my cheeks ``this couldn't be real”. This had to be some sort of practical joke. I needed to gather myself “breath Leticia” “this can't be real” although I want it to be, I need it to be. Immediately I scurried for the door and off to the bank. I proceeded to go, tripping over my own two feet on the way there. I was there in two point two seconds flat. I couldn't complete a full sentence when I asked  the bank teller to cash my check for twenty thousand dollars. She asked me how I'd like it in small or large bills, I just blinked and nodded my head and hoped she understood what I meant. Finally she began counting my money in hundreds as the permanent smile began to form at the corners of my mouth. I began to sweat as I stood there waiting for my money to be counted. The teller looked at me in a peculiar way and questioned if I was alright , her words fell on deaf ears because I only saw her mouth moving but no sound came forth. .I was coherent  but i seemed to have lost touch with reality. It felt like I was in another world this had to be a dream, things like this just don't happen! “Wake up Leticia” “your broke. you don't have twenty thousand dollars... or a little black book!". "excuse me” I heard a voice calling behind me, “are you done” “yes I am sorry”. I picked up my large sum of cash and headed out the door as fast as my feet would take me. The air hit me and woke me out of a slumber I guess. this is as real as it gets. “ I'm not fantasizing”!

Well here's how I'm going to end my story since God has done a Good thing for me through the works of someone else. I'd like to extend a hand to someone else who may be having a hard time like myself, and I'd like to take half of what I have and put it in a check, buy a little black book and attach a note. That they may add all the blessings on each page. How God had blessed them in each and every way. A page for every day. Yours truly Leticia.
