The Mission and the Memo About It
You have messages

You are going to make my day. Live on forever in my thoughts and steal grins long after I have left and am at home boiling water for tea.
An unlikely fortune teller.
Somebody got mad skills. Like infectious joy.
It’s so much more fun than it sounds.
Look at you. Supreme Teacher. A powerful reminder through the busiest/longest/saddest/strangest/rainiest/wildest days of how we arrive on the planet.
You are an adorable memo.
My intention focus is ironclad. One store, three items, and then out of there. Record time so that I could get the grocery shopping done, miss heavy traffic, and be home before my son finishes school. From the bottom of the street, I notice you in the distance, already on the “Where’s the fun in that?” tip. Clearly, you were having a ball. Naturally, you’re thinking, “Why isn’t everyone? Let me help them.”
While the town is bustling with people on a typical Friday and they move in separate ripples like waves in and out of stores, up and down the street, undulating around you. Love-soaked joy spills from you over everywhere all at once. Containment defied? Containment be damned!
My heart is already gone. I love the ones that can’t help it. Who let their feelings for you gurgle through then force-blast out in the open. Fluid under pressure, released from a fire hydrant. Water is life. So lick-drench everybody in reach with it, Fire Chief. Let everyone be reminded of the lessons and power of water. Take on all the shapes. Be all states of matter. Be here all in before forever.
I’ve bought my items and no thought is given to slow down, but there’s loads of pedestrian traffic.
Your Highness, this happened hours ago and even as I encapsulate events on paper, I’m still shining starlight with teeth chattering full of giggles.
Everyone travels in pairs, trios, or solitary shoppers. You nab-nab-nab, here and there, and get rewarded. Unrestrained bliss refusing to be ignored.
Your owner holds the leash but that’s all she holds.
Barely.
You have one mission: Contaminate everyone you can with every ounce of ecstasy an over-eager dogginess can deliver and get you some loving back. No holds barred free-for-all works for you.
Cappuccino-colored shag and not overly groomed. Sensing everyone’s heartbeat just fuels the fire inside you. Another passer-by bestows the praise you crave after the classic leap on two legs. You would wag all the tails in the world if you had them. I’m drawn to all beings overflowing. The ones who are full in every moment, spiraling passion 360˚ and showing us how easy it is.
Weaving through the crowd.
I’m getting closer.
Conversations drift by on a word or two fading or falling in front and behind me.
I enjoy coming here.
The quaint independent shops with one-of-a-kind names like Nomad Supply Store, Hoi P’loy, Figgins, and Owl. Even when brimming with people, it doesn’t feel rushed. Easy-going flow streams of humans relaxing to walk in.
You are getting closer.
Medium height with a muzzle dipped in charcoal and eyes that can’t miss anyone or anything if they tried. Love has to be taken from every direction and every drop given away.
Splurge.
There are still lots of people walking by you.
I am less than a second but you pounce just as I am almost out of reach. Paws of joy on my left thigh. Already I don’t ever want to wash it again. You got me. Just like you knew you would. I’ve been touched by doggie awesomeness. I stroke your head and laugh. Our moment suspended, preserved in rapture.
You are still teaching. How can one being, manage with that much love? It can’t be done. Give it all away or you’ll burst. But even that will feel fantastic. Why don’t we live like this every day?
Leaving post-it notes of pen-drawn hearts and hands squeezed tight. Relishing the anticipation in children’s eyes brightened for luscious bakery treats. Time for one more page. Seductive glance. Remembrance space for one more memory. Dance in summer rain. Find unobstructed horizons before dawn…and wait.
Not necessary to seize the day, only celebrate it. There’s not really a list. Only life. Let it find you some light, love, and laughter. You deserve loads.
And to the sweetie pie of a canine that I saw today, I wuff you.
