A young woman was set up on a blind date by her friend. She was told that the guy was handsome, smart, and funny. She agreed to meet him at a coffee shop.
She arrived at the coffee shop and looked around for her date. She saw a man sitting at a table, reading a newspaper. He was wearing glasses, a suit, and a tie. He looked very handsome and sophisticated.
She walked over to him and said, “Hi, are you John?”
He looked up from his newspaper and smiled. He said, “Yes, I am. And you must be Lisa.”
She said, “Yes, I am. Nice to meet you.”
He said, “Nice to meet you too. You look lovely.”
She said, “Thank you, you’re very kind.”
He said, “Shall we order some coffee?”
She said, “Sure, that sounds good.”
He called the waiter and ordered two cappuccinos.
They started to chat and get to know each other better. He told her about his job as a lawyer, his hobbies of playing chess and golf, his family of four siblings and two parents, and his dreams of traveling the world and writing a book. He asked her about hers. She told him about her job as a teacher, her hobbies of painting and yoga, her family of two sisters and one brother, and her dreams of opening her own art studio and adopting a dog. She found him very interesting and easy to talk to. He made her laugh with his jokes and compliments. She felt a connection with him.
They finished their coffee and he asked her if she wanted to go for a walk.
She said, “Sure, I’d love that.”
He said, “Great, let’s go then.”
He got up from his seat and folded his newspaper. He then reached for his cane and tapped the floor with it.
She realized that he was blind.
She was shocked and speechless.
He said, “Is something wrong?”
She said, “No, no, nothing’s wrong. I just didn’t know that you were blind.”
He said, “Oh, I’m sorry. I should have told you earlier. I hope you don’t mind.”
She said, “No, no, of course not. I don’t mind at all.”
He said, “Good. Because I really like you.”
She said, “I really like you too.”
He said, “You do? That’s wonderful. You know what they say: Love is blind.”
She said, “Yes, they do say that.”
He said, “And you know what else they say: Blind dates are the best.”
She said, “Do they say that?”
He said, “Yes, they do. And they’re right.”
He then took her hand and led her out of the coffee shop.
She followed him with a smile on her face.
As they walked along the street, he asked her more questions about herself. He listened attentively to her answers and shared more stories about himself. He made her feel special and appreciated. He also made her feel safe and comfortable as he guided her through the traffic and the crowd.
She thought to herself: This is the best blind date ever.
