All that Jazz
Every move you make to forge your own path is blocked. What is the role of a parent. To help your children to rise above. Both of my parents had secrets which they did not share with their friends. As a family I thought it was my duty not to share those secrets. The lies they were living. I was shocked when I moved to North Carolina to find people I didn't know, knew all about my dirty laundry. When I made friends, I kept them miles from my family. The few times I brought friends to their house, I learned that my job would not be mentioned, but the roaches in my apartment would be. The new dress I had bought with my earned money, would be qualified with a mention of the sneakers they bought me. I learned that I had to create a network of friends away from my family. Manly(ish)
Hand off your hat, Grab a beer, and Settle in. We’re off for a bumpy ride. It’s the MAN TRAIN. It may go off the rails. First off, let me note that, even without the obvious feathered embellishments and scarring ... I look absolutely nothing like the picture above. Well, I do have arms, legs, head, eyes.. and all the requisite anatomical parts that define the basic biological make up of the human male. All of which still function properly. 👍 That is almost where it ends. I am 60, a bit overweight, 5’6” tall, and no person’s definition of a … “hunk.” My beloved wife & soulmate, however, just said to me, “To me, you are my hunk.”

Self-Made Man. Content Warning.
When you grow into adulthood without the role of a father figure, one often discovers there are lessons that need teaching; things like how to patch up a hole in the plaster wall before moving out of a rented space, things like which IPA to order at a bar. Things like how to shave, how to win a fight, or how to engage in small talk with men who transiently appear in your life about the football game last night. How to feel strong, how to be strong, how to pretend that you’re strong when you’re not, how to not be strong at all — lessons that would do well to be imparted by a father figure.
